The view over the lake is everything!
The view will take your breath away! We arrived late and were so grateful to be met at the station and helped to the apartment with our luggage - thanks Luigi, and thanks also to Giorgio who rescued us when we were having a few problems with the electrical sockets and left us a bottle of wine.
The apartment is spacious and well equipped but quite dated in its decor, and the kitchen has lots of appliances but not a lot of space to use them.
The main problem for us was the noise at night. The apartment overlooks the main thoroughfare and people tended to congregate below, where there was a water fountain which they would turn on and leave running all night - like Chinese water torture! Music from a nearby restaurant was also a bit of an issue - especially the (not very good) drum solos ....
Still, the view makes up for almost everything, and when it was quiet it was heavenly.
We loved our breakfast at the Cafe Varenna, minutes from the apartment (fabulous coffee) and would recommend the restaurants Al Prato and Osteria Quatro Pass. (Unfortunately we weren't able to get into Il Cavatappi). Bookings in advance are essential for these more popular places. The pizzas at the Victoria Hotel in the main square were good too.
We were able to walk back to the station with our luggage via the walkway which goes along the front to the ferry terminal and then on to the station - only the last few metres are uphill. We took it slowly (we are in our 60s/70s). There's a cafe at the station, and you can buy train tickets there from the travel agency, although we bought all our tickets at Milan Malpensa on our arrival. Don't forget to validate train tickets in the yellow boxes - a young couple on our train from Varenna didn't realise, and were fined.

Varenna Holiday
The accommodation meet our every expectation. The location could not be faulted. Even the recommend restaurants food was fantastic

Great Lake Como Location and Great Hosts!
When considering a stay on or near Lake Como, one wouldn't regret staying with Giorgio and his family at Casa Riva. The apartment is nicely appointed and well maintained. The location is ideal- right on the lakefront walkway.
Giorgio is the owner and manager of Casa Riva. He and his son Alberto could not have been kinder or more considerate hosts. They enjoy sharing the beauty and unique qualities of the area with visitors. We rented a powerboat and crossed the lake for a great (though not inexpensive) leisurely lunch at an island restaurant. The excursion was fun and tasty!
We would highly recommend Casa Riva for anyone interested in staying in the Lake Como area.

Casa Riva .. Simply wonderful ⭐️❤️⭐️❤️
We’ve just arrived home following 5 magical days at Casa Riva in Varenna which sits on the harbour waterfront. The views were amazing and the whole area is authentic and depicts Italy beautifully.
The host Georgio & his son Alberto were fantastic, so helpful and on hand if we needed anything. And met us as we arrived by taxi ( we booked prior via online booking ) they even made us a booking in the nearby restaurant as we arrived late.
The apartment was spotless clean and had everything you require. The views from the bedroom & living room took our breath away ( see pictures below of the views from apartment and one of the Villa Monestaro gardens and the Alps which can be seen )
Casa Riva is a perfect location for couples and romantic breaks, it’s well located for trips to Bellagio, Como, Mellagio and beautiful nearby places. The ferry is a lovely 5-10 minute walk and the ferries are great value and run on time - everywhere is easily accessible. The square
( piazza) is 2 minutes away and the local grocery shop is run by a friendly gentleman who speaks perfect English.
Both my husband and I want to come back - we loved it so much.
If you’re looking for an authentic Italian beautiful break Casa Riva is it. We felt safe and were bowled over by the beauty of this region. The mountains, the lakes, the fresh air, the houses and everyone was so friendly. Be prepared to wear flat shoes as there are steps and cobbled streets going up to the main square.
Verenna is small but beautifully formed, and is home to some wonderful restaurants, cafes & drinks including beers and cocktails can be purchased a minutes walk from the apartment.
The hosts English is very good and they even left us a beautiful bottle of wine and made us feel very welcome. They communicated promptly when booking and we would highly recommend them and their apartments.
If you’re looking for a perfect base to go travelling, a place of beauty and is aunthentically italian then this is it - it’s got bucket loads of character.

Tremendous apartment on romantic Lake Como
We spent 5 glorious days in this perfectly located apartment. Luigi met us in the town square and helped us with our luggage which was greatly appreciated. What a wonderful location to explore beautiful Lake Como and Varenna is a quaint
compact town with tons of character and excellent restaurants. Everything is within 100 meters of this apartment. The balcony and view are so nice to relax on after a long day of sightseeing. Would love to stay here again.

Perfect Place to Stay in Lake Como
This apartment was an amazing space with a view of Lake Como. It was exactly as outlined and the hospitality we received during our stay was stellar. It was a perfect place to call home during our visit. Highly recommended!

You buy the view
You book this apartment for the view. Unforgettable!
You also get a bedroom,a lounge,kitchen and bathroom but you spend most of your time on the balcony. Look,it's not a hotel and the fittings are not new but I would go back there in a flash. There is however a major fault that needs attention: the temperature control on the shower does not work so you either freeze ot get scalded. And a 24 inch TV - really zmt Galli?
But I repeat!After 9 days there I'd happily book the place again.

We saved the best for last.
This apartment has a fantastic location right on the waterfront in Varenna, with a double balcony to enjoy the views across the lake. The apartment is nicely updated and modern with a full kitchen, and a washer AND dryer in the bathroom. Varenna, the apartment and it's location were excellent, but the best part may have been our hosts. Our host, Luigi, met us at the train station, even after we arrived two hours later than we intended due to train delays. Luigi said his associate, Giorgio, who runs the shops downstairs was also available should we need anything. Between Luigi and Giorgio we couldn't have had a better time.

Perfect location in Varenna
We spent four nights last week in Luigi's apartment which I booked for my partner David's 60th birthday.We couldn't have been happier with the location, it's perfect with the most amazing view from the balcony across the lake to Menaggio on the other side. I agree with another reviewer that this is probably the best location in Varenna. Sitting on the balcony watching the boats and people go by, was wonderful, it's very buzzy with loads of restaurants on the doorstep. At night though, it's totally peaceful. Central location to everything else too, ferry, Villa Monastero (also fab).
We very much hope to go back before too long. Luigi was a kind and friendly host, we couldn't have asked for more.Thanks Luigi for everything! David was over the moon with his holiday.

Best location in Varenna
What a gem this apt. Is. This is THE best location in Varenna. The balcony overlooks the heart of the town. The rooms are large and well equipped. Giorgio and Luigi were great to deal with. We would greatly recommend this apt to anyone who wants to have a great Varenna experience!
