Beautiful countryside Tuscan villa with swimmingpool.
The other reviews were right. This is the place for families wanting to relax in the Tuscan countryside. We rented two weeks during a very hot summer period. The swimming pool was used all the time, in fact we would not have survived without it. It had perfectly clear and cool water. Imagine a morning dip overlooking the sunflower fields down around Terontola. Or hiking up to the top of the hills above with a basket of coffee and biscotti and have a swim coming back afterwards. Talking about hiking, I walked down to Borgo Riccio to buy bread many mornings (that is the place to go to have a dinner too if you don't want to cook yourself). Also hiking the southern way down to Terontola was really nice, on countryside gravel roads. Terontola itself is not very interesting though - it does not even have a gelateria.
Mauro is a super nice host, making us feel at home instantly. He and his brother with families organized a pizza evening for us. That was fantastic. The pizza oven was fired up the day before - no kidding! And they taught us to make various pizzas from scratch as long as we had any place left in our stomachs. Basil and rosemary we picked from the pots in the garden of the house.
On Thursdays there is a market in Camucia just below Cortona - it is well worth visiting, both for food and for clothes.
For going to Florence you can park the car on the other side of the railway station in Terontola and take the train. However, Siena and Florence were so full of turists that it was painful, not fun. Our best daytrips - apart from Cortona of course - were Isola di Maggiore, Panicale, and Castiglione del Lago.

Everything you want Tuscany to be!
Le Celle del Farinaio is everything you want Tuscany to be! Starting with the booking process, Mauro's warm and welcoming personality came through his always prompt email correspondence. When our family met him upon checking in, he welcomed us with a hug and a fruit tart made by his wife. Along the way, we were treated to fresh vegetables from his garden and figs from the family fig trees. Any questions or needs we had were immediately met. (There weren't actually many because the home was so well supplied!)
The villa had everything we needed including a well stocked kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, fans to help combat the summer heat, and plenty of indoor space and comfortable furniture.
The outdoor area was even more impressive with the amazing hillside views, swimming pool, ping pong table, trampoline, hammocks, plentiful outdoor seating, and grills and pizza ovens. Plenty of resources for relaxation and recreation for our family of six (grandparents, parents and two teen aged girls). When we saw the photos of all of these features online, I wondered if it was all as good as it looked to be, and it was!
And although the property has enough to keep you at home for the week, of course you want to enjoy the surrounding Tuscan towns. Charming Cortona is about a 15 minute drive, and there are too many wonderful towns to list (Montepulciano and Pienza being my other favorites) that make for easy day trips.
Lastly, I have to mention what was a true highlight of our vacation - a pizza feast prepared by Mauro and his family. Please treat yourself to this! Again, the family was warm and generous and the pizza was truly the best any of us have ever had. We ate until we were stuffed on pizza combinations we've never had before, and still had leftovers for dinner the next night. Also of note were the family's wine and olive oil, very much worth indulging in!
Thank you to Mauro and family for a truly special stay and for the wonderful memories that you helped us to make!

We were there with three families, 6 adults and 8 children in total. The house is well located, in a quiet space. The house is big enough and confortable, with a lot of furniture, there is a large swimming pool, 2 barbecues, possibility to prepare pizza's, etc.
Mauro Tarquini, the owner, and his team gave us a lot of presents (fresh fruits, bottle of wine...) impressive ! Thank you Mauro !

Un très bon choix
la localisation est idéale pour visiter arezzo/Pérouse/Assise/orvieto/Sienne. Une maison séparée en deux, idéale pour deux familles avec enfants. La piscine permet de se reposer au calme avec une vue superbe. Accueil très chaleureux et remarquable de Mauro. Allez y sans risque.

Very nice house with all amenities and very friendly landlord
The house is in a very nice location, overviewing a valley. It is at the end of a small road, with almost no neighbours, so you can enjoy very quiet surroundings and also you do not disturb anybody. Very nice and well kept garden as well as well maintained swimming pool. The house decoration is done with good taste and in the kitchen you will find all you need. Great open fireplace, which we lighted almost every evening.
The landlord is very friendly and helpful. We have certainly enjoyed the wine and olive oil he has supplied as well as fuit and cakes he brought us.

A delightful Tuscan Retreat
I traveled with a friend and her family for an extended stay in Tuscany. The villa was rented by my friends aunt. It was spacious, clean and well equipped. We actually rented side by side houses. Each side had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms as well as kitchen facilities. The location was accessible though down a narrow gravel road that might intimidate some. Be careful about oncoming traffic as some drive a little fast down that road. Grocery stores are nearby and we had no problem buying food for our stay. The nearest town is Cortona which is a nice afternoon trip. Towns which are easy to visit from this location would include Arezzo, Florence (we took the train there), Siena, Assisi, Perugia, and Orvieto to name a few. The beds were comfortable to me. We had as many as 11 people in the two houses and had more than enough room. It would be a great place to have an extended family use or perhaps a group of friends. The weather was not warm enough for us to use the pool, but it looked quite nice. This house is out in the country and while you can hike in the hillside, there is no place for an easy stroll into town for example. Two of our highlights in the stay was the incredible dinner cooked for us by Frederico, the owners son. Also, one day Mauro, Rossana, Gabriela and Nevio(sp?) made a pizza dinner to die for. I don't even want to think about what my cholesterol was when I came back. The only negative about the house was an intermittent funky smell in one of the bathrooms. Water pressure in the bathrooms was good and the water hot. Initially the internet was spotty but the owners worked and improved that. There are TVS in all of the bedrooms, but all of it was in Italian (like duh, that is where we were). I wish it had been warm enough for us to enjoy the lovely patio kitchen that they had. I would definitely recommend the place. Can't say enough about how wonderful the owners and their families were to work with.

One of the best vacations I have ever had
I have traveled to many places but this vacation in Tuscany at Le Celle Del Farinaio was one of the best. The villa was wonderful and completely comfortable and the Tarquini family some of the nicest people I have met. The scenery at the Villa is exquisite and the plantings are amazing. At one time we had 11 people staying and everyone was comfortable. Frederico, Mauro's son cooked an amazing birthday dinner and took us to many wonderful places. I recommend the villa without reservations (except the bumpy road up to it).

Dream Vacation
The Villa was absolutely wonderful and just as it had been described in the Trip Advisor information. The location was somewhat isolated. However the landscaping surrounding the Villa, the interior of the Villa and the quiet was much appreciated by myself and my family and friends who were there with me. I always wanted to stay at a Villa in Tuscany, and this was just the right place. I and my guests also much appreciated the attention and help that the owner and members of his family provided to us.

Een Echte aanrader
Wij verbleven de eerste drie weken van september 2013 in Le Celle del Farinaio. In feite twee huizen met ieder een eigen keuken, twee badkamers en drieslaapkamers, eigen terras met barbecue, pizzaoven en grote eettafel met stoelen. De tuin die bij de twee huizen ligt is schitterend met uitzicht op de Toscane, zwembad, ligweide, trampoline, tafeltennistafel en alles wat je nodig hebt om een geweldige vakantie te hebben. Wij kregen in ieder geval kippenvel toen de eigenaar ons het huis liet zien. Daarnaast wordt je door de enorm aardige eigenaar verwend met een welkomstavond, vers fruit en groente en andere aardige dingen. Wil je een gewelidge vakantie in de Toscane boek dan dit huis!
Het is wat moeilijk te vinden maar Farinaio staat in de routeplanner en vervolgens moet je langs een sportveld rijden en dan steeds maar rechtdoor (weg wordt steeds smaller) tot je uiteindelijk bij het huis aankomt.

Charming place in Toscana. You will never forget your stay
Charming villas on the hills of the Trasimeno lake with beautiful scenery and relaxing. Time stops during the stay. Each has its place and benefits as it means facilities available: swimming, Mountain biking. Difficult to leave the house yet conveniently placed for exploring the treasures of Tuscany and Umbria. Mauro, the owner upon arrival, established a welcoming atmosphere and is at your disposal during your stay. Everything is perfect even last evening organized by our host. An unforgettable stay.
