A Magical Place For A Relaxing Holiday
Despite all of the many challenges with travel at this time we are thrilled to be back in Crete staying at the delightful little cottage Sofas. This is our 7th holiday here and save being a little more reserved in where we’ve ventured to it’s been as relaxing as always. Georgia and Dionysis are wonderful hosts, nothing is ever too much trouble and Georgia’s artistic touches make for a wonderful place to stay.
Over the years there have been many subtle changes to Sofas as well as some more material investments such as a new bathroom and flooring, all of which add to the character of the cottage. This is to be commended as not all owners take this attitude and approach.
Having our own pool in the pretty walled garden is a delight, with alfresco breakfasts, lunches and dinners (on the odd occasion we do not eat out) all part of what makes this a special place.
We love the simplicity of life here, a real chance to relax away from the hustle and bustle of normal life; not your typical holiday resort. The cottage is situated in a tiny hamlet but reasonably close to Maleme where there is a supermarket, restaurants, cafes and taverna’s. Wave is a particular favourite. The beach at Maleme is a mixture of sand and shingle but there are plenty of free sun beds close to adjoining bars, and the sunsets are amazing.
Platanias is a short distance away with its many sandy beaches, shops, bars & restaurants and Chania is a “must” to visit with the ancient Venetian port particularly wonderful. Watching the sun set over the harbour is beautiful. Going west there are some wonderful places to visit, with the beach at Falasarna one of the best on the island. We tend to hire a car for the duration of our holiday but there is a good bus service linking most of the towns on the north coast.
If you are looking for a peaceful holiday away from it all with wall to wall sunshine you would really struggle to find anywhere better than at Sofas and you will be royally looked after by your hosts. No doubt we will return for an 8th visit.

Perfect relaxation in a fantastic property
Arriving at Villa Sofas is like stepping back in time. Georgia and Dionysis have created a great little retreat here, with a lovely pool and sunbathing area as well as a beautiful shaded courtyard. Both G & D were very welcoming and nothing is too much for their guests.
The Villa is very well appointed with everything you will need for a relaxing stay and a great bathroom! You won't want to get out of the gorgeous bed.
There is a bus stop within 5 - 7 minutes walk and the buses are every half hour in both directions, 10 minutes to Platinias and about 30 to Chania depending on traffic.
There is a mini market opposite the bus stop and a supermarket around 15 minutes walk so a car is not necessary here.
The beach is also a short walk away if you can tear yourself away from the Villa.
If you want to visit this area Villa Sofas is the perfect place to stay.

Perfect for peaceful, relaxing and romantic holiday
The location is very good, as the place is peaceful and the pool and yard are sheltered to quarantee privacy. Maleme village with services and beach are on a walking distance. The area offers good possibilities to sports, beach life or mountain road drives. The house is very nice; old but modern and really stylish inside. The owners take good care of the house and their visitors. They really do everything for their guests.

Fantastic private villa with pool looked after by owners who provide exceptional service
We have stayed at Villa Sofas four times and can not fault the accommodation or the owners of the Villa who ensure that their guests are made as comfortable as possible. The setting is perfect for exploring the west ( best) of Crete being well placed for beaches, mountains and Chania and with the benefit of a private pool

Perfect Romantic Holiday
My partner and I stayed here for a week this summer for a romantic holiday away. The villa was everything we wanted and more. Very quiet and peaceful and only a short walk to the beach or a quick bus journey to Platanias or Chania (where there are plenty of tourist attractions!). The villa is beautiful and the perfect size for a couple. The pool is amazing, perfect to cool off on a hot day. The owners Georgia and Dionynis are wonderful, friendly and very helpful. They made sure we were very comfortable throughout our stay and the little extras they add are so kind and thoughtful. I would highly recommend this villa to anyone looking for a romantic holiday, it is just perfect!

Perfect Hideaway
Just back from a week staying in Villa Sofas (preceded by three days in the East of Crete)... Where to start? Maybe with the lovely welcome from Georgia and Dionysis... They really love this place and are rightly proud of what they have created... The house (or storehouse, which is what the name means in Turkish) is full of history and character and they are happy to share the stories...
Maybe I should even start before we arrived, as Georgia provides such great information about the area and the most precise directions imaginable!
To the house... Ideal. Cool and shady inside - the bedroom has a distant view of the sea and is beautifully furnished... Outside a nice pool for a refreshing dip and a good variety of seating areas ensuring that you can always find sun or shade... Good BBQ area.... Excellent wifi.
But really it's the character of the place that you fall in love with... so nice to come back to after a day visiting historic sites or the wonderful West coast beaches (all easily accessible and the drives are simply stunning).
In summary - a great place to stay, well located and a true sense of the real Crete.

Jolie petite maison romantique
Belle maison agréable et romantique en Crêtes avec deux charmants hôtes vraiment serviables qui ont même arrangé la location d'une voiture pour nous.
J'ai beaucoup aimé le fait d'avoir des vélos pour la promenade et le foyer chaleureux. Par contre le lit devrait être renouvelé mais tout de même j'ai apprécié cet endroit et les environs ainsi que la gentillesse des gens.
Nous avons visités plusieurs endroits dans les montagne mais il faut vraiment avoir une voiture pour profiter des lieux.

Beautiful villa to relax and get away from it all
Stayed at the beautiful Villa Sofas October last year, a little late writing this review, sorry!
But just wanted to tell anyone who is looking for a totally relaxing place for a break away this is it!
Truly wonderful and characterful old building, beautiful and private gardens and swimming pool. Villa very comfortable especially the stunning bedroom.
Great location with easy access to the many attractions that are in Crete.
Special thanks to Georgia & Dionysis, the owners, who take great pride in their wonderful property and who were always available with help and advise that made our holiday memorable for us.
We hope to return soon and would highly recommend Villa Sofas to anyone
