Playa Del Sol Resort offers complimentary snorkeling and half day fishing tours to each guest group. During your stay we will make sure that you will snorkel at Mexico Rocks and catch some fish by the reef. (Please see below for more info)
Playa Del Sol impresses from the moment you dock at the pier and enter the lush, landscaped grounds, but its biggest draw is that it is only 800 yards from the reef. The unique architecture, blending tropical charm, Mediterranean sophistication and Belizean craftsmanship, is designed to merge indoor and outdoor living into one seamless experience. Inside, the guest house is bright and airy, with high ceilings, large windows and a...

25th wedding anniversary celebration
This was our second time to stay at Playa Del Sol. The first time was in March for spring break with our family of 4 divers. We liked it so much that we rented the whole place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary diving with best friends. We had a dive company pick us up and drop us off at our very own dock at Playa Del Sol, which was very convenient. The days we didn’t dive, we went with David on some awesome excursions. He is very good at giving guided tours and made each time we went out in the Playa Del Sol boat enjoyable. One of those times was when we went to Caye Caulker and along the way we snorkeled with 2 kissing manatees. It was ironically appropriate as that was our anniversary day. That evening was so much fun! After coming back to Playa Del Sol we had one of many of the delicious meals at El Norte Bar & Grill and then celebrated with cake and champagne. Per my request, Iz located a bakery that was able to make the perfect cake and arranged to have it delivered for that night. We danced barefoot in the sand under the lights and stars. Iz even did the chicken dance with us! Thank you Iz for making our anniversary special and forever memorable! Thank you for making us feel like family and Playa Del Sol feel like home! We’ll see you again and again and again…

Great vacation for the adventurer
We stayed here in February and had a fantastic time!! If you like fishing, snorkeling, food and drink, this is the place for you!!! The boat captain put us on enough fish to feed us the entire week! And enough lobster and conch to feed a small army! Dont hesitate to book as you will have a blast as we did!!

gateway to the sea
I and my wife recently returned home from a wonderful two week vacation spent at Playa Del Sol, Belize. This secluded resort was the perfect place to spend quiet time, to star-gaze and to watch the sun rise without the noise and bustle of a larger resort or being in town with its heat, noise and traffic (with 2 to 3 guest groups max to the property we felt as though we were pampered private guests at all times). We were able to spend time exploring the more remote areas of Ambergis Caye as well as being able to access the reef for fishing and snorkeling without difficulty and, when necessary, trips to town were easily arranged. A traveling “farmer’s market” made its appearance 2 to 3 times weekly with fresh, local vege’s and eggs helping to avoid the stressful town experience. The staff at Playa Del Sol made the entire experience magical. Fernando at the bar was always a smiling face and a joy to talk with, his insights into the culture of Belize were fascinating and enjoyable, just be cautious when playing dice with him as he has the “luck of the Irish”. David, our boat captain, was a fount of information regarding reef life and went out of his way to show us unusual features of the reef, a day spent fishing with him is not wasted time regardless of your luck (his friend Edgar who helped out with our days on the water was very attentive and a great comfort to my wife who is not the most confident when snorkeling in open water). Yuri, David’s wife, cooked wonderful meals when asked (great shrimp ceviche and curried chicken) and Cecilia was always available to provide cleaning etc. for the premises. Cecelia’s father Jimmie was a quiet presence but could be prevailed upon for lobster and fresh fish and Tomas seemed always to be caring for the grounds and pool (clean and inviting). The most entertaining of the crew were the owners, Iz and Shea. Iz was ever attentive with suggestions for activities and dining as well as to our comfort and Shea was a quiet, reassuring presence who was a balance to Iz’s exuberant personality, both with stories of their travels and the events that brought them to Belize and Ambergis Caye. Finally the property dogs, Rain, Whitie and Panther (and a new pup Luna) helped us not miss our pack of Schnauzers so much.
We did not have a single bad experience the entire time of our stay and would not hesitate to return (my brother and sister-in-law were with us for part of the stay and plans are already underway for a larger family vacation here in the near future) or to recommend this resort for the vacation of a lifetime.

You will be treated like family at this resort!!!!
Why stay here??? Well I'd start with the people. The owner, Iz, and his staff make a huge difference in the experience. Included in the stay is the pick-up from the airport. Our vacation started with not only one flight delay, but two. I felt so bad texting Iz about the delays and having him rearrange our pick-ups, but he did so without any hesitation. We stopped at the grocery store and the driver packed everything up for us and we headed to the resort. San Pedro itself is very busy and crazy. I'm glad we did not stay anywhere near there! When we arrived at the resort, Iz welcomed us with rum punches to relax by the water after our long trip. Then he showed us around our condo and I must say it was the cleanest of any place we've ever stayed. Normally I wouldn't put my clothes or toiletries in a drawer as there's always some kind of dingy look/feel to the drawers. NOT HERE! It was spotless even to the corners! White bedding and towels further complimented how clean it was. So, rest at ease.
The next day we sat with Iz and planned our week. As many activities are included with the stay, we scheduled those and a few other excursions recommended by Iz, all of which ended up being top notch, safe and very reasonably priced. Our family of five (three teenagers) are very active, so we planned as much as we could for our weeklong stay including deep sea fishing, snorkeling, becoming scuba certified, trip to Secret beach, trip to Mayan ruins and cave tubing. Once we had it scheduled out, Iz coordinated it all including transportation to and from. There was nothing we needed to worry about other than what time to be ready and what to bring. I'm normally a control freak and need all the details, but Iz took care of it all, which was very nice.
We made our breakfasts every morning and then ate most lunches & dinners at the resort, and they were wonderful! They simply kept a tab of whatever we ate and drank and we settled up at the end of the week. It was nice not always having our wallets out and just showing up ready to eat.
We also did laundry midway through the stay, so that made our packing lighter for the week.
Overall, Iz creates a fun, laid-back, safe and entertaining environment. He really knows how to take care of his guests and follows-through to ensure everything is perfect. If his name is associated with it, you can be sure it will be top notch! I can't say enough about him and his staff.
Things I didn't know:
* Groceries are VERY expensive in San Pedro. Well over double US prices. For example, a pound of bacon was $15! Just be prepared if your family likes big breakfasts. They do take credit cards at the grocery store, but be sure to stock up for the week as you don't want to go back if you don't have to.
* We brought $1,000 in US cash. We should have brought twice that, but again we did a lot while we were there. It's easier to do things on the island in cash. I was just worried about taking a lot of cash. Iz has a safe in the condo, and it's easy to lock up whatever you don't need on a daily basis.
* We should have used more bug spray as the no-see-ums got to a couple of us. They are like super small mosquito bites, but not as itchy. Again, no big deal, but take anti-itch cream and bug spray in case.
* The golf cart ride to town takes about 45 minutes. So it's not something you'd want to do every day.
* I didn't get an international cellphone package for 4 (out of 5) of us for the week. We just turned our phones to airplane mode and relied on wifi. No need for all five of us to incur the cost. It wasn't a problem at all.
* You don't drink the water out of the tap there. Iz provides water, so just be sure to bring your water bottles.
* The condo is located inside the reef, so the water is very calm.
* The condo has a beach area, but the entrance to the water is via sea wall.
* There's 2 hammocks and a huge chair at the end of the dock for watching the sunrise and enjoying morning coffee.6
Packing suggestions:
*Buy your reef friendly sunscreen, bug spray & anti-itch in the US as it's much cheaper.
* I bought water socks for us all, but we never ended up using them. The day we did the cave tubing, we needed shoes, but they rented them for $3 each, so we just did that. Otherwise, we just went barefoot or in our flip flops.
* Bring a nice water camera as there are so many great photo opportunities in the water! You'll be very disappointed if you miss out.
* If you have left-overs from breakfast, etc, bring a handful of ziplock bags. I found them useful.
* If you want to save money and you have room in your suitcase, bring what you can from the US like snacks or oatmeal packages, etc. Iz supplies coffee, a small amount of sugar, salt & pepper, dish washing soap, liquid hand washing soap and a shampoo/conditioner. My kids like to snack a lot, so I wish I'd have brought granola bars, nuts, etc.
* Iz supplies beach towels, but I should have brought a big beach bag to lug them around. We brought a couple backpacks for sunscreen, books, sunglasses, etc.I also borrowed a cooler from Iz the day we went to the secret beach.
* Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, water bottles aloe vera and hair detangler!
Enjoy your trip! It will be memorable!

Tremendous for the Adventurous!
Yes, there are mosquitoes and it's remote. So if you want to spend your holiday lying on a perfectly manicured lawn or shopping for trinkets, this is probably not the place for you. But if you enjoy beautiful accommodations, delicious fresh food, and incredible, personalized service, and if you want to snorkel the reef, swim with sharks, hunt for conch and lobster, kayak, and go fishing, you just can't do better than Playa Del Sol. Iz and all--Ben, Fernando, Laurel, David, Yuri, Jimmy, Thomas, and Cecy--took great care to ensure that we enjoyed our time on the caye. And when we had to cut our trip short due to a family emergency, they went out of their way to help us, even rearranging their schedule so that we could still swim with the sharks. It was a rare experience--truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Best Trip Ever
Playa Del Sol met and exceeded our expectations ! I can’t say enough good things about the owner and all the staff. Everyone was pleasant, helpful, and ready to meet our every need. We felt more like cherished family than guests. The personal touch was greatly appreciated whether arranging an outing or fixing our meals and drinks, everyone was very accommodating. I can certainly recommend this facility to anyone who wishes to be well taken care of while on vacation. I will definitely return !

Second time around, still amazing!
Stayed at Playa del Sol again on a father-son trip. Once again it was amazing. Got to go out deep sea fishing with the stay and had a blast catching some huge schoolmaster snappers. Fishing was one of the highlights of our trip, I really enjoyed spending time out on the crystal blue water.
The food from the kitchen was delicious, the nachos were a meal and a half. I would recommend all of the food from the bar.
One of the highlights from the trip was going out spearfishing for lobster. It took a bit of practice to get the hang of, but I finally got some! We brought back our catch from the day and got it cooked up in a delicious meal. Having it all cooked up as stewed fish with potatoes and tomatoes and heavenly spices was phenomenal.
The staff was amazing and helpful. the recommendations were spot on in town. From them, Caliente Restaurant in San Pedro had a fantastic special, great seafood!
If you are looking for a secluded, serene beautiful resort with great fishing, this is definitely one to try.

The Perfect Getaway!
Playa Del Sol was exactly what we were searching for! My husband and I needed a getaway and Playa Del Sol was perfect! We wanted a place where we could enjoy the beauty of Belize without feeling like a tourist. Iz, the owner, sat with us early on and asked what we would like to do/see -if anything- and put together a plan for our stay. The property is secluded but close enough to town to be able to go in and shop or eat should we choose to do so. Our fishing and snorkeling trips began right off the Playa Del Sol dock so we didn't have to go anyplace to be picked up by a bigger group!
Del Norte is an awesome place to drink a cocktail and look out over the water which is about 20 feet away! The food is fresh and delicious and shrimp ceviche was to die for! The staff was friendly and attentive.
We will be back!

Highly recommend! Fantastic place and people.
From beginning to end, our trip to San Pedro / Playa del Sol was fantastic! Iz was great and without being intrusive, was always concerned about our enjoyment. He, along with all the other folks, made our stay very memorable. Not having been to Belize before, we were concerned about whether our stay would meet expectations. One of the best vacations we’ve had. Iz and the people who work with him were always helpful and enjoyable. Don’t miss out on using the boat, makes things much easier than having to rent a boat. Also, don’t miss out on the fun times at El Norte the Tiki bar on premises (Chris the bartender / owner won’t fall for your Texas Holdem tricks). We also enjoyed meeting all the other vacationers from rentals away from Play Del Sol who came to the tiki hut. Having a golf cart on premises was also great. We used it the days we needed, but weren’t locked into paying for days we didn’t. With David as our guide, it was great catching our own fish, lobster and conch and having it prepared that day. I think, like most other, we read all the reviews before booking our stay at Playa Del Sol. We have to say we can’t disagree with those reviews. Each person will have their own experience, but the adventures we chose, were lifetime memories thanks to all the folk at PDS and El Norte!

We Love Playa Del Sol!!
We are a week back from our amazing vacation at Playa Del Sol in Belize. We (me, my husband, 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter) spent 8 marvelous days there over Thanksgiving. Ambergris Caye in Belize feels a little "undiscovered" which i LOVE. The north side of the island where PDS is located is definitely away from the hustle and bustle you find in San Pedro. It is about a 45 minute car/golf cart ride to the resort. Iz and his wife Shae who own the property live on site. There are three other units. It is picture perfect.
The resort is lovely. We stayed in one of the the two bedroom units. Our son slept on the futon in the living room. The beds were comfortable--slept like a baby. There was plenty of room. The hot water was HOT and the A/C was COLD. The furniture is lovely. You have everything you need.
Upon arrival we were sent a taxi to pick us up from the airport, take us for groceries and drive us to the resort. Iz, the property owner, was waiting with a smile and a welcome drink at El Norte, the outdoor palapa covered bar located steps from the units. Honestly, it could not have been more perfect.
Iz met with us the next morning and organized our trips: hunting for conch and rock lobsters with David--WOW! (which the amazing Yuri--David's wife--cooked for us that evening), fishing with David and Hill (the greatest tour guide!), snorkeling two separate times and places (this was AMAZING--like swimming in a fish tank) , swam with sharks!!, and fed tarpon. We organized a trip to the Lamania ruins (highly recommend. the boat ride alone was worth it. We took the plane to the mainland--worth the $80 each it cost to save the time!) we rented jet skis from Iz which were a hit with the teenagers!
We became more endeared to Iz and all of the others at PDS each day. We spent our days on adventures, either planned or last minute (with the help of Iz) and our afternoons at the El Norte Bar with Chris (the awesome Canadian owner) and Fernando. These guys are sweet, smart, & interesting. We looked forward to this time of day! (and I mean ALL of us--kids included).
My advice: take water shoes, flip flops and tennies for the ruins. NOTHING fancy! Skin So Soft for the noseeums (if it is still), bug spray w/DEET (we were NOT bothered by mosquitos), & sunscreen. If you are high maintenance this is probably not the trip for you BUT if you want a true Belizian experience with amazing people GOOOO! We will be back!
