This is THE place to stay in Istanbul! The apartment is nothing short of gorgeous. So many beautiful historic and artistic touches, combined with all the modern amenities you might need. The beds and the quality linens are among the most comfortable I've slept in anywhere in the world—including luxury hotels. The kitchen is fully equipped and quite modern. The living space is surprisingly large, with a big living room and big dining room—a really nice setup when traveling with friends or family. The bathroom is also spacious and comfortable. The wifi is excellent, which is always important to me as a remote worker, taking my job with me when I travel. There's a rooftop terrace where you'll find stunning views of the city. The building and neighborhood felt extremely safe and vibrant. Right downstairs is Privato Cafe, with some of the best food in the city. Nearby you'll find all sorts of other cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping for any taste (unique boutiques, mainstream stores, and tourist souvenirs), street art, galleries, and more. A nice walk takes you to sites such as Haggia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, the Grand Bazaar, Arasta Bazaar (which we much preferred over the Grand Bazaar), the Spice Market, and more. We loved having a chance to visit those spots, but would not have enjoyed staying near them, as the area is packed with tourists. The Galata Tower area, where this apartment is located, was much more homey, plus the beautiful Galata Tower serves as an easy landmark for finding your way around. Julia and Tarkan go above and beyond anything I've experienced with Airbnb. They are professional hosts and make sure that every detail is covered and your every need is met. They send numerous communications in advance of your visit, ensuring that you have the tips you'll need to safely and comfortably make your way around Istanbul. We booked our airport transfers through them, which made things so easy and smooth for us. We didn't get to meet Julia and Tarkan in person, but their management team (Duygu and Taskin) were exceptional. The communication all around was second to none! Although my friend and I normally avoid any type of organized tour, preferring to explore and adventure on our own, at the last minute we decided to book a food tour through Istanbul Place. It was the BEST decision we made! The cost compared to group tours offered elsewhere, and yet it was private and customized to our specific tastes and diets. Our guide was Necla, who is now our friend for life! She is a knowledgeable foodie who took us to places we never, ever would have discovered on our own. It was such an incredible day, filled with incomparable flavors and conversation. This is a MUST for anyone visiting Istanbul. I highly recommend scheduling this tour early on in your stay, as it will help you understand the foods that you eat during the rest of your visit, as well as the various customs and hospitality associated with eating and drinking your way around Istanbul. Istanbul had been on my bucket list for years, and I am so happy to have finally visited. The city is absolutely magical. I was taken aback by its sheer size, and was pleasantly surprised at how safe and welcome I felt. Hospitality is a deeply entrenched part of the culture—so much so that you should allow extra time on every excursion, as you are sure to be invited for coffee or tea by people you've just met. Always say yes—this is how to truly get to know this place and its beautiful culture.
