Returning to Ubud after almost three years due to Covid travel restrictions, we wondered how badly the island was still impacted by the almost total shutdown of tourism.
We'd seen videos of shops boarded up on Monkey Forest Rd and empty streets.
So it was almost reassuring to get caught in traffic as we got close to the centre of town and seeing that Ubud was back in business.
Staff were waiting on their scooters to ferry us up the last few hundred metres to Villa Satori, a haven in the rice paddies we first discovered about 15 years ago and have been returning to ever since.
Satori Villas has expanded to become a small boutique chain on the beautiful Kajeng juwuk manis rice fields walk but this is the original. property.
There is a real feeling of peace in this beautifully presented villa overlooking the rice paddies and palm trees, with the view stretching toward the spectacular backdrop of Mt Agung.
This beautifully decorated two-storey villa (plus guest house) is always immaculately clean and the gardens around the massive pool are like something out of a gardening show.
Sitting on the upstairs deck in the evening is still one of my favourite places to be in the world.
My wife and I stayed alone at Satori this time, which seemed a bit extravagant for just two people, but we have previously stayed comfortably with up to six people.
Satori consistently gets five-star reviews for a reason.
All the villas have a relaxed luxury Bali feel and are perfectly located just a 10 minute walk from town.
But it is also about the staff.
Satori Villa managers Wayan and Ketut have been there from day one and we have become friends with them and many other staff.
It says a lot about how the villas are managed that most have been working at Satori for years.
I'd like to think we get a special Satori experience but I know everyone who stays here gets the same friendly and professional care.
Great villas, great staff - for us, it adds up to the perfect Ubud experience.

Wonderful
Spacious luxurious Bali style villa about 12 minutes walk from busy Main Street.
Villa located in the rice fields and we heard frogs, ducks,roosters,birds,gekkos.
Great to be away from the noisiness and smell of the downtown motor bikes. although traffic is increasing everywhere.
Lovely rice fields walk on your doorstep and coconuts could be bought from Nyaman on the spot .We especially liked putting opened coconut in the fridge .Cold coconut water !
You will also have a direct view of duck being let out by the farmer in the morning.Hilarious.
Villa has amenities one would expect in a luxury accommodation including aircon and a large jacuzzi bath and a truly lovely pool
Wayan ,Vera, Ketut and Gede were wonderful.
Wayan's and Vera's cooking is a must.
Ladies make lovely breakfast.
I think other travellers mentioned that you can ask for a ride into town ,its very easy to
do and guys are always happy to give you a ride if you are hot or tired etc.
The owner was very easy to communicate with.A pleasure.
Definitely recommend.
Also, go and see Balinese dancing .
It's a truly magical event.

Do you believe in Magic?
Site seeing in Bali can be hectic especially with the traffic in the cities. Katut picked us up by Motorbike and delivered us to the Villa to begin our experience. While my long flights from the USA and lack of sleep were fresh in my mind, all concerns, issues and stress just disappear as you sit on the patio overlooking the pool and take in the quiet beauty of this place. The staff are very responsive calling back within minutes if they did not pick up. Always greeting us with a smile, the staff makes arrangements for Massages ( requiring a little notice) or grocery shopping and wine to stock the kitchen. We enjoyed the serenity of this creation so much that we didn’t want to leave as we unwound from our stresses, and laid by the beautiful pool. We asked them to go grocery shopping for us and cook us some Balinese dishes which they did so that we had food available whenever we wanted, without leaving. Our stay was originally booked for 2-3 nights, but we cancelled the rest of our plans and spent our entire time here, and lucky for us it was not booked the next 3 nights.
WiFi is available and works well. They leave you a cell phone which you can use to call to get picked up by motorbike for excursions into town, or dinner at a restaurant or to order a massage on the deck.. A truly Beautiful Breakfast was included and served every morning with a flexible schedule and a smile. I almost hate to tell you how truly beautiful this place is for fear I won’t be able to get a reservation when I come back, but that would be unfair to the owners who have created this unique place.
This home is stunningly romantic, and I would have proposed to my girlfriend on the spot, if I had only had the ring…
It is nothing short of Magic.

Great villas
We stayed in both villa banana and villa Santana in the group of extremely well appointed villas right in the middle of the rice fields and both were magical. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the villas to a friend (I travelled with 2 sons of 6 and 8). Definitely try Satan's banana pancakes! And have a massage with the other lady also called Wayan. She is amazing.

This is my happy place!
I stayed at Villa Satori with my two kids for most of March 2018. This was our second stay at the villa. Villa Satori is the original house of several newly built villas of the same owner/operator. We prefer this one because of its size (not too big) and layout: cool first floor which opens up to a nice dining porch and sweeping views of the fields and Mount Agung from the second floor. It also has the largest pool of all the villas (though still small if you are thinking laps). This villa is staffed by their original and very best caretaker, Wayan, who is one of the most sweet, sincere, and easy going individuals I have ever met. Satori Villas as a business delivers an incredible product: flawless service, with your every need met with poise and consistency, well-built and designed accommodation (cannot be taken for granted in Ubud), and beautiful furnishings. This is the one place in the world I can feel relaxed, taken care of, and at home all at once. Over time. the area has become more busy, with more villas and more motorbikes-- this did not deter from our stay, but it is more of a bustling place nowadays. Go now, stay here.

They all exemplify the warm, caring hospitality that Bali is known for and intuitively handle all tasks with grace and a smile. Ubud has grown a lot, and we are grateful that our Geeen Zone does not allow cars, so the air is still fresh and clean and our neighborhood remains charmingly authentic. Fabulous and luxurious stay in one of Bali's most beautiful settings.
We have been visiting Bali for over 30 years and have stayed in a variety of accommodation including the 2 Four Seasons Hotels and the Amandari Hotel. When we arrived at Satori Villas we were stunned by the amazing views over a large expanse of rice fields. Never before had we had such a wonderful outlook and it continued to delight us for the duration of our two week stay. What we loved about Satori Villas is that we felt in touch with the authentic Bali and it's beautiful people.
The staff were superb and at the end of our stay we felt sad to say goodbye. They greeted us with big smiles each morning, happily made us delicious breakfasts and were readily available if we had any needs or requests during the day. They took us to and from the centre of Ubud on motorcycles whenever we asked but mostly we liked to walk the short and fascinating small road ourselves. By the end of the two weeks we got to know several of the locals and it was great to stop and have a chat (despite our limited Indonesian vocabulary).
The Villa was expansive, extremely comfortable and with many areas to relax - both inside and out. It was filled with Balinese art and furnishings and surrounded by a fabulous tropical garden.
For us our stay at Satori Villas was a perfect combination of luxury and an authentic Balinese experience - we can highly recommend it if you are planning to visit Ubud.

superbe séjour
Très bel endroit à 10mn à pied de la frénésie du centre d'Ubud. Les villas sont posées au milieu des rizières. On y accède uniquement à pied, calme garanti, à part les canards! La prestation des villas et les services du personnel sont très bons. l'endroit est juste magique!

Pleasant stay
This has been a genuinely pleasant stay. It's only a brisk 10min walk to the centre of Ubud and is situated up a steep but small hill set amongst the rice paddy fields.
The staff are at hand to help with anything you need such as transport, booking of activities, laundry, ordering takeaway food etc...
Our 4 bed villa was well maintained and clean, with a lovely pool and good wifi.
Our house staff made simple but nice breakfast. Don't expect bacon or sausage!! Just fruit, eggs, pancakes and toasted white bread.

- breakfast could improve, bed sheets were poor quality.
Overall a very pleasant stay.

Best vacation ever...dream come true!
If you are looking for an amazing escape that has all the comfort of home but more...this is the place.
Just a walk from Monkey Forest that has all the great shops, dining and temples.
When I say home away from home...this villa is exquisite and nicely decorated with a beautiful pool after afternoon dip and sunbathing.
All of the rooms are very comfortable and clean.
Breakfasts are lovingly prepared and provided.

Beautiful villa in an amazing location
Our family of 6 just spent 5 wonderful days at the Villa Satori. The setting in the rice paddies was so lovely, waking up to the sounds of ducks and roosters and seeing the fireflies in the rice paddies at night. The views were beautiful in all directions and the villa itself was very comfortable with a lovely pool and garden as well as comfortable beds. We also enjoyed using the books and DVDs provided, as well as the delicious breakfasts made by Wayan, and overall had such a wonderful stay. The walk into Ubud was enjoyable due to the friendly people in the street and we loved getting fresh coconuts from Nyoman across the lane from the villa. We will definitely stay here if we come to Ubud again.
