This place is a an school classic place to stay. The owner Mrs Plant is lovely and takes good care. The decor is cosy and the food / breakfast is decent homecooked. Will recommend for longer stays.

We stayed for 4 nights at the English Cottage in Oct 20. I must say that it was one of our best few days, at a hill station. The English Cottage and host Mrs Shalla Plant was just fabulous. The location of the place is just a short walk down the hill, past the Raj Bhavan. The Cottage is ensconced in a quaint Garden with lots of foliage and the rooms open up to a wonderful Terrace. You can sit at the terrace in the morning chill and stare at the mighty Kanchenjungha and listen to the rooster in the distance below. The view I think is the best in Darjeeling. You may also decide to see the mountain cuddled up in Bed and through the Glass window. But I preferred the Terrace. The breakfast served by Mrs Plant is top notch. With a perfect touch of home, The sitting room with the sofa and dining table has all the old world charm. The Kitchen well appointed for anything that you may need. The bathrooms were basic though and may do well with some facelift. If you are in the mood to enjoy the hills , try and get the hospitality of Mrs Plant. We loved it. Only caveat, you will have to walk with your luggage abt two hundred metres , half of which would be down the hill. But again, worth that little huff and puff.

The English Cottage offers a full view of the majestic Kachenjunga Range. Shalla is a wonderful host and serves the most delicious breakfasts. The Cottage is within walking distance of the Chowrasta in Darjeeling.

The cottage is located at a vantage location and has the best views of Kanchenjunga peak. Sitting on the upper deck we could get superb views of sunrise illuminating the peaks to gold at about 4.45 in the morning. Shalla tells me that it is the same view one gets from tiger hill. The cottage is fully furnished including a washing machine and clothes dryer. Chowrasta the busiest area of mall road is barely fifteen minutes walk from the cottage. Both Austen and Shalla are perfect hosts and take very good care of the guests. We stayed with them for two days and the hearty home cooked breakfast served by Shalla shall be remembered for a long time.

Our stay at English Cottage turned out to be one of the most beautiful travel experiences we've had.. If you are looking for comfort ,warmth and the perfect view this is the place😊 Spending time with Mrs&Mr Plant (the owners) has been enriching in more ways than one.. They serve lovely breakfast and treat their guests with such care.. If you like 'hotel experiences' this is not the right place but if you are looking something finer than a hotel experience..This Is It!

Shalla and Austen are the most incredible people ever!Their house is a jewel with the best view on the mountains, rooms upstairs under the roof full of charm, amazing terrace view.downstairs 2 rooms in an independent apartment with kitchen,living room and beautiful terrace.flowers everywhere. Both have had lifes that could be written in a book and the house is full of memories of all their travels. Breakfast is wonderful and full o9f great conversations. This house is unique for its architecture and its people. Shalla took care of us as her own children, making sure we were always good, helping us to find a doctor for a whole morning. You put a foot in this house, and you are not the same anymore! Thanks so much to you, and your sweet and smiling staff. Sandrine

L’English Cottage est admirablement situé à Darjeeling. Sur les hauteurs, à 8 min du centre à pied, vue splendide sur la chaîne de l’Himalaya depuis votre lit et surtout au calme. La maison est très bien conçue pour un séjour en famille ou entre amis grâce à un appartement indépendant comprenant 2 grandes chambres doubles avec salle de bain, salon, cuisine équipée et terrasse. Mais le grand point fort est avant tout la qualité de l’accueil des hôtes. Chaleureux, disponibles et passionnants, ils vous accueillent autour de petits déjeuners délicieux et très généreux et donnent conseils et explications pour un séjour réussi. Nous recommandons très fortement cette adresse unique où nous espérons revenir.
