Beautiful Location
I had the chance to stay at Casa Del Compositor for a few days with a friend. The house was perfect. Located in the middle of a beautiful lush garden where we were able to see sloths and hear monkeys.
The house is conveniently located walking distance from the centre of Puerto Viejo with many shops and restaurants. Playa Negra was a few minutes walk away and we went over early on most days to walk and meditate. It was perfect!
Donna is a gracious host that was able to accommodate our needs and requests and left us in the hand of great friends of hers who guided and helped us with any questions all throughout the stay (Thank you John & Eric!).
Large bathroom, plenty of storage space in the spacious bedroom. The living room and kitchen were beautiful and fully furnished same as the rest of the house.
Casa del Compositor is a great place to stay to fully experience the Puerto Viejo feel and the Costa Rican Pura Vida vibe!

Lodgings of a Lifetime
If at the pearly gates, I’m asked to recall my favorite accommodations on Earth, Casa del Compositor would certainly top the list.
To call the cabin “simple” or “traditional” would undervalue the craftsmanship of the space. There are big, swinging windows to open in the bedroom, sitting area and kitchen, which make it feel like you’re in a living landscape painting. Because let’s just say, there’s nothing like waking up in the morning, opening the bedroom windows, and hearing the wildlife from your bed. I’m far from being an interior designer but was impressed with how put together the space was. There’s little details, colors, and pieces that make it a real joy to live in.
Since the property is on a botanical garden, at the edge of the jungle, you’ll see and hear sloths, toucans and even monkeys. After taking a tour earlier in the week to see just one or two sloths from a distance, it was quite the experience to walk outside and see an entire family living above my house.
The property is far enough away from town and the street to avoid noise, even during peak season, but close enough to reach the beach in just a few minutes of walking. The beach, Playa Negra, is made of magnetic, black sand, and I enjoyed waking up every morning to walk twenty-or-so minutes across the sand and into town for breakfast or groceries. Because unlike other properties, the kitchen is well-equipped with pots, pans, an oven, cutlery, purified water, and a french-press coffee maker.
Donna is an excellent host, who goes out of her way to make this a gay-friendly place to stay in Puerto Viejo. She shares the property with a same-sex couple named John and Eric, who runs the Casa Corazon del Mar – a spectacular dome-shaped property that’s worth looking into if Casa del Compositor is booked.

Dear Ryan,
Thank you so much for such an amazing review. You certainly have a way with words. I am always so very happy to hear that the people who stay at casa del compositor are completely satisfied with the experience. I must as always give a shout out to to John an Eric as it would not possible to do without them! They are incredible hosts and know how to show everybody a good time . Thank you once again .

Relaxing and FUN!
Spent a week at this place and had a blast! Total privacy, and windows that open the house up to a beautiful jungle. It's across the way from the beach and walking distance to town, giving you plenty of places to shop, eat, drink, explore and wander! Absolutely LOVED this place! We swam at Playa Negro. We went on a hiking tour and saw monkeys high up in the trees, sloths, and tropical birds. We did the Zipline Tour and took Kayaks up the river, where we saw turtles! This will not be my last stay here!

Amazing little home in Costa Rica
This little wooden house is secluded, safe and extremely private. The windows and doors open up to an amazing tropical garden that surrounds the house. We woke up to the sounds of wild birds singing and a tropical breeze. The house is walking distance to the local bus stop, and playa negro, as well as bars and restaurants in Puerto Viejo. Taxis, Tour buses, Activity Vehicles for Ziplines and hiking, all come right to your front door. We really enjoyed our stay. It was comfortable, fun, clean and even saw a baby Sloth hanging right outside our door, and an adult climbing the tree above us. I highly recommend you stay here!

Winter Getaway
When I arrived at the house I was taken away by the lovely garden that wraps around the outdoor patio. I would spend many mornings outside having a tea and watching as countless butterflies and small frogs roamed around the garden. The location of this house is perfect just a quick walk to Playa Negra and 15 minutes to town. Everyday I would walk into town along the beach to pick up groceries for the day. I cannot say enough good things about my stay here the location is beautiful and the neighbours are lovely, will definitely be returning soon.
