In the 20+ years that we have rented houses in France, this house has been, by far, the most disappointing, and departed the most, from the pictures and description given which led to us renting this property. Perhaps 5 years ago (or more) the pictures may have shown what the back and front gardens looked like; with the ability to play football and other games, but now its pot holed and more like scrubland. Weeds growing over large parts of it were around a foot tall!
The accommodation was as described but with 12 people in the house we didn’t expect to run out of hot water by 5pm on 2nd night. The next day onward we were ‘water savvy’, no baths, washing by hand and fewer or shorter showers. It then lasted until around 6pm. (Bearing in mind it’s the height of summer and there is a pool with quite high chlorine content, showers after a full day are really a necessity). There are 2 water cylinders (each 300 Ltr capacity not 400 as told) and being similar to Economy 7, only reheats overnight, so some had to go without showers and though there is a lovely Jaccuzi Bath; that equates to 4 peoples ration of hot water to use! (We contacted the owner but no answer until we emailed a second day). The answer was there should be sufficient water for normal use!! Hardly helpful, and, given the above, clearly incorrect. Constant hot water should be provided given the price of the rental.
The dishwasher broke down and was attended to quickly enough, (2 days later), however the additional use of hot tap water to wash up for 12 by hand 3 times a day added to the rationing issue and used up to an hour and half leisure time each day. For 1700 euros??
When you pay that sort of money for a week you do expect the oven to work, as well as your own. Please make sure you heat up the oven for at least 1/2 hour before you need to use it. And only the half-grill setting works. Maybe a few more mixing bowls would be useful.
Fixing the lock on the downstairs bathroom and finding that most of the internal doors downstairs don’t actual shut/close properly is not really what you expect.
The front garden and pool were lovely with lots of seating and the Pool Table indoors saw plenty of late evening matches played. The one adverse comment on the pool is that it is cleaned once a week. That must be on a Saturday. Unfortunately that means that by Wednesday the bottom of the pool is very dirty, with no means of cleaning it. Any amount of activity results in the dirt being disturbed and you are swimming through it. Yet another reason for having a shower afterwards which you can’t do.
The air conditioning was Fabulous.
Generally the setting and the area were lovely and if the house received the attention it needs I would recommend it. Such a shame to have to write our first negative review because of a lack of care and attention.
We will try to add some photos.
