The Coast of Maine House is a beautiful 10 bedroom (26 bed) 5500 square foot 1856 brick ships captains mansion ideally located 2 miles from the ocean. Our highly sought after property has three floors, four bathrooms, multiple fireplaces, 11 foot ceilings, three 50’ flatscreen TV’s and Wi-Fi. We are ideally located in Saco, 20 minutes south of Portland and 20 minutes north of Kennebunkport, 2 miles from three beaches and surrounded by churches, coffee shops, restaurants, yoga studios and craft breweries. Our mansion has nine beautifully decorated bedrooms that are divided over three floors, one more in the adjacent cabin. Ships Captain's Mansion perfect for Family Gatherings
This home is perfectly appointed with 10 spacious and beautiful bedrooms , five bathrooms and fireplaces throughout . Tremendous great room that accommodates 20 guests easily . This property is close to everything that Saco, Maine. The host is incredibly kind and responsive. Did I say , that the property is fifteen minutes from Portland? My wife could enjoy the daily visits and within a half hour be in the comfort of this lovely home. I cannot recommend this home enough. Great for large family gatherings or company retreats!!

Great space for extended family reunion
This is definitely one southern Maine’s most desirable large property rentals. This 10 bedroom, 1800’s brick ship builders mansion easily accommodated our group of 24. It’s location just south of Portland and north of Kennebunkport, ME was ideal. The kitchen was supplied with all new appliances and comfortable seating. The formal dining room accommodated 20 individuals. There is a beautiful pool in back when you visit in summer. The owner was friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this property .

Beautiful large property on the coast of Maine
This large Ship Captains mansion was perfect for our family reunion of 22. We loved the 19 large rooms on 3 floors and were thrilled at the privacy that every family had when they wanted it. The kitchen had great appliances and cookware. The bedrooms were immaculately decorated and the bathrooms were perfect and extremely clean. We loved having a large and clean pool and there was plenty of space indoors and outdoors for socializing. We would like to come back in the future.

Beautiful home for groups looking for a great location with over 15 beautifully decorated rooms on 3 floors.
We loved staying at this large coastal Maine property! The Coast of Maine House was ideally suited for our large group of 26 adults and children. This is truly a Maine Ship Captain’s Mansion with tall ceilings and fire places. The kitchen is full of new appliances and cookware. The 10 bedrooms were all large and well furnished. The bathrooms were well styled and clean. The children loved the outdoor built in pool and the adults loved socializing on the deck area which could easily seat 30 or more. Will be back next season!

Very disappointed.
My wife's family had booked this back in November and going by the pictures on here and AirBnB it looked very nice. You can be forgiven if you thought the place would be gorgeous just going by the photos. Unfortunately upon arrival our expectations dropped quite a bit.
For starters you have four parking spots on the left side of the drive way and SHOULD have a few more on the right side, which is all marked out for parking as well. Instead, the right side is cluttered with a corral w/ a horse, two horse trailers and a couple other vehicles, all belonging to one person, the owner. The horse corral does not look big enough for the animal who is eating and standing not 2 feet from where it just took a giant dump. Not only that but on the fourth day we were there we had some pretty heavy rain, but did the horse have any shelter from that? Nope, just stood out in the rain which I'm pretty sure is against regulations.
Let's talk about the carriage house, where my wife and I were slated to stay. We were warned by family members as soon as we arrived that we weren't going to like it. We walk into the carriage house and the entrance way is basically a cluttered mess of a basement-like hallway littered with all sorts of stuff. The two bedrooms were tucked away under a staircase leading up to where the owner stays and just did not look inviting at all. We ended up moving to one of the third floor bedrooms instead(photo 27/30 on this listing). This wasn't too bad except that if you look at the photo mentioned and turn around 180 degrees, the other side of the room is a tile floor with a tiny sink and mirror. There was a rug cleaning machine, an air conditioner, a large fan and two big armoires. Behind the armoires there were laundry hook-ups on the wall and it was filthy. We ended up rearranging everything to give ourselves more room. Not only that but the rug had massive stains all over it, one of which had a welcome mat covering it to hide it from view.
I can't say much for the other rooms as we did not scrutinize them as much as ours but my mother-in-law, who was in another room on the 3rd floor, had the horse right outside her window in the driveway. She complained about having to smell manure the whole time. The place in general was not up to par. The ceiling fans were caked with dust, we found kitchenware that was filthy and some that had DEAD BUGS in them. We were glad to find there were not one but two fridges, but before you get your hopes up just know this. The top shelf in the second fridge was cracked down the middle and drooping. My wife's uncle jerry-rigged it with some duct tape and a knife for support, but why should we have had to do anything; why was it not FIXED by the owner? We were also confused to see that the automatic ice making function in both fridges seemed to have been purposefully disabled so that you couldn't use it. As far as I know no explanation was given for this. We ended up using some ice trays we found in a closet. The first night we were there my wife's cousin made food on the grill. He mentioned that the grill hadn't been cleaned at all. They ended up having to put out a fire while he was cooking because some of the left over gunk had dripped into the flames below. Also, the washer and dryer down in the basement... we never bothered using them because they were also dirty, complete with a chock full lint trap in the dryer. A clear example that the owner doesn't bother checking the place now and then to make sure nothing needs a bit of elbow grease.
One more thing about the place; the owner apparently rides his horse around town a bit. My wife's aunt mentioned seeing him the night before our stay began. She said she introduced herself and mentioned we were slated to stay in the house beginning the next day. By the description of his reaction this guy seemed to have forgotten that he had incoming guests, which is not very professional if you are running an AirBnB. This guy should be hiring people specifically the clean the entire house from top to bottom when he knows people are coming. With the disrepair and uncleanliness of things we came across we got the impression the owner really doesn't care one bit. Is he a nice guy? Sure, he seems to be fine but he needs to pay more attention to caring for the place. Overall, I do not recommend this place.

On 95% of my reviews on all three vacation rental sites The Coast of Maine house is on we receive 5 star ratings. We are already 70% sold out mostly by previous renters for 2022. I’ll leave it at that.

Reunion
It is a beautiful building with plenty of space. However, the kitchen was filthy and very cluttered. The inside of the cabinets were gross. The oven was dirty and took 30 minutes to preheat. The dishwasher was recently replaced and the old dishwasher is on the front porch under a tablecloth.
The rest of the home could use some attention to detail such as cleaning of the woodwork and grates. There is no comfortable place to sit except outside by the pool or on the front porch. In the morning I took my coffee to the front porch and was hit by the smell of manure. I looked around the corner of the building and on the driveway in a makeshift stall is a large horse. The horse was there for the last 3 days of our 4 day visit. The smell was horrid.. A junk car and horse trailer are in the drive to block the view of the horse from the street. There are only four parking spots available on the property for guests. Everyone else had to park on the street. The yard has not been mowed and bushes were not trimmed. We will not be going back.

Nice getaway
We wanted to get away to Maine with our clan of 7 adults and 5 kids. The house was large which allowed us to spread out on three floors with 8 bedrooms to choose from, we only needed 4. The pool was awesome with a low kiddy end and a deep end. The location was convient to a number of Maine's beaches, we went to 6 different beaches while we were there.
Nice kitchen and eating area for a decent sized group. Overall a really good experience.

The coast of Maine house
This place was HUGE! every room was sprawling and the bathrooms were also very big in size. Each room had new bedding and linens. The main living room area was also very large in size. The kitchen was also big enough for a large size group or family. The location of the home was extremely convenient and safe! The house was located a few blocks from the ocean and other tourist attractions. There was also a swimming pool in the backyard! This place is definitely a must if you’re looking for a spacious home for you and all your family or friends.

Beautiful Historic House 3 miles from the ocean
I came here with a group of people and we all loved it.
This historic building is incredible. The rooms are beautiful and everything is extremely neat and clean. I love that I can bike 3 miles to the ocean and walk to various coffee shops and breweries. This place is well suited for families or a group event and I highly recommend it. There is also an outdoor in ground pool with plenty of seating around it, everything is kept up extremely well. I can’t wait to go back next summer.

Spacious and charming historic home
I have had the pleasure of staying once with some friends and once with my family at the coast of Maine house. Both experiences met all of our needs and provided special memories for the groups with whom I traveled. The home is comfortable and has tons of spaces to explore and enjoy. It is also well appointed with beach towels, comfortable bed linens, stocked kitchen, art, books, swimming pool and even yoga mats and supplies. The location is extremely convenient - downtown has coffee, restaurants (we like “run of the mill” only a few minutes from the house) and breweries, and Saco itself is close to multiple beaches, scenic lookouts/lighthouses and biking/hiking paths. I would recommend to anyone who has a large party or just loves a unique experience and wants to break out of the typical rental property. We certainly hope to return!
