Truchas Peaks Place was created to provide comfortable accommodations for your family gathering, a small wedding, or for a retreat, workshop or conference. Newly constructed, the facility offers luxury bedroom suites, meeting rooms, a library with 11,000 volumes, full service kitchen and dining room. With stunning mountain views, tranquil surroundings, ambience and atmosphere, the location is secluded yet easily reached on the High Road to Taos, a New Mexico Scenic By-way. The library is available for individual research or simply a quiet reflection.

The Truchas Peaks Place and Opus House accommodations offer a beautiful destination retreat in the Land of Enchantment.
The Property is private and well maintained, alluring enough to create the desire to hold up in the Library for a week with a nice fire burning in the fireplace.
The town of Truchas is centrally located to many wonderful sights in New Mexico. El Santuario de Chimayo, the oldest church in the region is just down the newly paved road. Georgia Okeefe's abique, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Los alamos, Bandalier, or Taos are a short drive away.

Horrible experience
The owner of this property is the worst human I have encountered in a long time. My son and his fiance used funds the family put together to give them a nice wedding at this location. Originally it was set for 2 nights. When my son's fiance was accepted to college and had to put money down to keep her spot they were short on money. With over a month till the reservation they requested to cut the 2 night stay to one night. We had already paid $2,700 (half the cost). That could cover their 1 night stay. He literally refused any refund or any change on the reservation (with 6 weeks till reservation) Numerous times we tried to work with him. The caretaker was super sweet. However, the owner is horrible. He literally took young adults starting their life together for $2,700 bucks and they never even got to see the place.

Just Okay
From their website, one gets the impression that this place will accommodate 40 or more people. Only if they are very, very good friends (the kind who share a bed) and if they all arrive on the same bus, because there's only parking for half a dozen vehicles. Of the 10 rooms, several share a bathroom -- these bathrooms have two doors, not all of which lock. (Again, if you're all very, very good friends, this won't be awkward.) The bedroom doors have locks, but not all of those work, either. The shower heads are gummed up with hard water so the spray is all over the place and the pressure poor. And the water heater is unreliable. Sometimes you get a warm shower (other times, not).
In the kitchen, the faucet runs only hot. There's no water dispenser in the fridge, so don't expect cool water on demand for drinking. Sink and stove are (bizarrely) raised half a foot. Anyone over six feet tall can cook and wash dishes with ease. Everyone else will need a stepstool. (Maybe the one my group purchased will still be here for future use. Enjoy!) The building is full of oversized, large rugs that are old and curling up at the corners. Major trip hazards. Plan to rearrange these, or strategically place furniture to pin the corners down. If you book during October, appreciate the cobwebs as seasonal decor. Other times of year, well. Try to appreciate them anyway.
The site claims 45 people can stay here. Some of them will need to bring their own towels. (Or maybe these 45 people really love to share.) Speaking of which. Towels are provided, but maid service is not. Staying for a week? Don't throw that towel into the washing machine yourself. Yes, there are laundry machines on the premises. But rather than lock the laundry room door or put up a sign, the manager will scold guests for washing their own towels (while doing nothing to provide clean ones). Never been scolded by a property manager? Don't miss the opportunity. It adds a certain flair to the whole experience.
And while, yes, the property is 3 acres, it's not actually tended to. One step beyond the building everything is overgrown. Unmown quack grass is the only lawn available and there really isn't an outdoor space that can be utilized for anything -- probably not a problem unless you're bringing kids who'd like to play outside. The building is suitable enough for a gathering but is not truly "nestled in the mountains" -- it's on the edge of a little town, alongside a road where the locals drive too fast. Don't expect to go for relaxing walks or energizing jogs unless you want to be hit by a car. There's a decent forest service road within driving distance if you like walking up dirt roads, but there's no nearby trails without loading up and going for a drive.
There are no nearby services of any kind. No (perhaps obviously) laundromat, grocery or convenience store, no gas station, nothing. So it is neither nestled in the mountains nor near enough to regular civilization. It's the worst of both worlds. I'm not saying it's bad - it's just not quite as advertised. If your company has booked it for a retreat, at their expense, go along for the ride! But I would not recommend this place to a friend, not at that cost.
