I was a first timer to Europe and had high expectations. This visit exceeded all of them. I have traveled to Belize, Dominican Republic, Africa and many other destinations and this was, by far, one of the most enjoyable vacations I've ever experienced. A quaint and well kept/maintained home with everything we needed coupled with the most beautiful surroundings made for the perfect vacation. Already planning my return visit.

The Gîte Le Recoux was the perfect place for us—comfortable, well-equipped, great views, quiet! The kids enjoyed the badminton and bocce ball available at the gîte and walking through the little hameau. Such an adorable location. Please be aware the toilet is downstairs from the bedrooms. We have traveled to a lot of areas in France but the Dordogne really amazed us. There is more to do here for families than most places. The owners also told us how to find the neighborhood goat who our kids visited with carrots everyday.

This is a perfect little hide away for a family of 4 just 10 mins north of the River Dordogne. We were given very clear information as to how to find the Gite and found it both very well equipped (Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Coffe Machine - essential) and very clean. The rustic / rural exterior is reflected in characterful internal beams and fireplace but everything else about the property is bang up to date with a small but well equipped Kitchen and modern shower room / wet room. While the internal rooms are by no means huge they are adequate for a family of four (inc. two growing teenage boys) for a week. A particularly nice touch is the balcony that opens up from the master bedroom. You can sit here and sip your coffee while the children sleep on. The view is of the trees and farmland as it disappears down the valley towards the river (not in sight). If we were being really, really picky the fact that the toilet is on the ground floor means the stagger to the loo in the wee small hours requires a night navigation down the stairs. We spent most of our time sat outside on the terrace where we ate all our meals, watched the sun go down and the stars come out. Excellent communication via email prior to and during our stay simply added to the ease of use, though it was the suggested itinerary that we found most useful as it enabled us to enjoy some of the local events as well as planning for trips further afield.

The Gite is beautiful and looks like it is out of a French Countryside book! It was relaxing and close to many castles and amazing towns. My children (ages 5 & 8) loved it and did not want to leave. Everything was clean and comfortable. Deb is amazing and provides tons of information and suggestions on where to visit and explore. Correspondence with her was easy, fast and she is extremely knowledgeable. It was an amazing experience!

Nous avons passé 5 jours dans le gîte avec notre bébé et tout s'est très bien déroulé. Les propriétaires sont très arrangeant et nous ont trouvé une chaise haute. C'était pour nous un dépaysement total et très agréable de rester dans cette maison de charme au coeur de la Dordogne. A l'intérieur tout est prévu : cuisine aménagé avec four, jeux de société, livres, classeur des sorties de la region, etc ... Pour une famille qui cherche le calme et des vacances au goût de local loin des stations touristiques, c'est l'endroit idéal ! Beaucoup de choses à faire et voir dans les environs, même avec un bébé ! Nous recommandons sans hésiter le gîte de Dan et Déborah.

Thank you so much for a comfortable and enjoyable stay at Le Recoux. It was in a perfect location for us to explore the Vezere and Dordogne rivers on the kayaks or to delve into the scenic parts of Beynac and Domme, yet return up the hill to our little home for a BBQ on the terrace. The owners itinerary was excellent, which we did follow on some days, especially the marches nocturne in Audrix. Thank you so much and I'm sure we will be back again!

The owner advised us early on that Gîte Le Recoux was difficult to find. With a GPS that would not play ball we searched unsuccessfully for some time. Although we had a series of photos to guide us and notes, in the end we sought help from the locals. One lovely lady took the photos, signalled follow me and 30 minutes later she found our Gîte. Have a current GPS! The Gîte only recently entered the rental scene and can accommodate a family of four or, in our case, three adults, one in the bunks in the upstairs bedrooms. If your are expecting five star modern fittings, go elsewhere, as only one downstairs toilet might not be acceptable to some. But if you want a real French country experience, away from noisy streets and neighbours, this is the place. Some can find fault with the best accommodations and we had some minor settling in events. But we accepted them as part of the experience and were soon relaxed and enjoying the views from the patio. We were most ably supported by the owner's local contact Claude, an 80 year old gem of a man. No problem could not be solved without his cheery smile. The Gîte is closer to Saint Cyprien than Sarlat and we spent some time in the town at various friendly cafes and the magnificent Sunday markets. We had many day trips to the surrounding country using the extensive and excellent guide provided by the owner well before our trip. In summary, our first visit to France, the Gîte, the friendliness of the Le Recoux and Saint Cyprien locals and the historical sites we visited was an experience that will stay in our minds for a long time.

We spend a very relaxing week in the gorgeous gite with our two girls (8 + 10 years). Sometimes we felt like real Frenchmen in this wonderful fairytale-landscape. We loved the cozy bedrooms upstairs and the nostalgic charm of the living room with the fireplace, the stone walls and the big family-table for games in the evening. I very much enjoyed cooking fresh vegetables and meat from the market in the perfect equipped kitchen – you’ll find everything you need! Of course the Weber-barbecue outside made my husband smile! Therefore we loved to eat under the big tree with the wonderful view into the sunset when everything around is totally quiet except some late birds or a neighbors’ dog. By the way the neighbors are very friendly and if we had a question, Marie José was with us within some minutes (as our French is quite little, it was easier to talk face to face). During the days we discovered the characteristic and interesting cities and villages around. The girls swam in the river and experienced the Gouffre Proumeysac with its fantastic light and the exciting gondola-drive down into the cave (it is worth to do this). Finally not to forget the amount of adventure parks around with climbing courses… they are so much better than in Germany! This nice little gite within this region, so full of wonderful places, will always be a wonderful memory.

What a wonderful place! We had a lovely stay, the accommodation is spacious, very clean and in a great location to explore the surrounding area. I would definitely come back for another visit.
