Magnifique gîte, au calme et plein de charme
Nous étions deux adultes et deux enfants. Nous avons passé de merveilleuses vacances dans ce gîte de caractère plein de charme. Très spacieux, tout en pierre de la région, on sent que le propriétaire (très sympathique !) a le goût de la décoration. Mention spéciale pour la chambre troglodyte qui est un petit bijou et qui permet de se rafraîchir s'il fait trop chaud à l'étage. Piscine d'une belle dimension qui a ravi les enfants. Au niveau culturel, le gîte semble isolé en pleine nature (ce qui est un avantage), mais est en réalité idéalement situé et vous permettra de découvrir le périgord noir en profondeur (tous les sites importants sont dans un périmètre de 30/40 minutes maximum).

Beautiful vacation rental with odd bathroom situation
We stayed here 4 nights. This is a lovely converted stable by the owner’s home. There are 3 levels if you rent the entire gite. The top floor is reached by a fairly steep staircase; there are 2 twin beds, children’s toys and games, and a shower/tub and toilet. On the main level is the well stocked kitchen, a lovely living and dining room, and a master bedroom with a shower and sink in the bedroom. When you go out the kitchen door and around the side of the house you reach the lower “troglodyte” area, with another master bedroom, and a separate bathroom with shower and toilet. The entire place was quite clean, and tastefully furnished.
There are a couple of downsides. This place would be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The house is reached by a short but somewhat steep patch from the parking area; parts of it are rocky. You must go up two steps to get from the kitchen to living area and bedroom on the main floor. There is no toilet on the main floor: you must go upstairs, or around the side of the house on a rough path to get to the lower bedroom. Walking from the parking lot to the house was a challenge in the dark, as it’s not well lit; a few motion sensitive lights would fix that.
We enjoyed our stay and our host. We don’t have mobility issues, but as physicians we’re sensitive to this and just wanted to make potential renters aware.

Thank you for your very interesting comment ! You are correct, people coming to La Maison Bleue should be aware that the house is built in the rock. That is part of its amazing location and charm. As you understand all the house renovation has been done upon the possibility "given" by the rocky environment. Constructing and renovating the house has been a real challenge and we are very happy you loved its particularity, it's troglodyte way of life !
We have described its rocky environment in Booking website and your comment make the house description even more appropriate to the next customers.
Troglodyte means rocky, the Maison bleue is for sure not a hotel type residence and it makes all the difference !

Charming and full of character
We had a great time in the Gite, which we used a base for exploring the wonderful Dordogne.
As described, this is not a hotel-like accomodation, but rather a 200 year old place, full of character that is more than enough to cover for its minor imperfections.
Christophe was very welcoming and helpful, and we do recommend talking with him before and during the visit regarding any question you may have.

My husband and I were part of the same party as April. I agree with every word. In addition, when we informed the owner that we would not be staying we followed up by checking to see if he had readvertised as vacant. He did not readvertised and I summised that he had no intention of making any kind of refund on the four nights we had paid for. One of the things that I was not happy with was the arrangements for paying a deposit toward damages. On the Booking.com website it says take cash for this, I did discuss this and we suggested a credit card, the owner said a cheque or cash which we would get back In a couple of weeks when he had checked the accommodation. We live in Wales and Australia so that was not really suitable. I did say I had cash but would need to get a return before leaving, he said that would not be possible. This seems very unprofessional to me. This set up and the accommodation on offer are not up to standard.

It is more than 10 years now we are renting the Gite de Charme. A lot of guests.. from all over the world !
La Maison Bleue is rated at least 4.5 on all websites we are in such as Google +, Booking, tripadvisor and so on..With regards to your delicate comments I will have to head to the description of the house that the gite is not suitable for people that can barely walk stairs and get the handrail at the same time and/or walk on uneven floor pass ways. I do remember our guests that was the only reason the male gave me why you decided to leave after one hour of stay, when females already in the ca, was “The Ladies couldn’t handle the relief of the gut due to their handicap”.
I completely agreed with your decision. Safety is our primary concern. The house as shown on various pictures available on the site is built on rock with their troglodyte rooms that give her its unique charm. You told me you were sorry about the misunderstanding and were more looking for a “hotel type” where access is more suitable for them. You did ask me about the rules for guests who decide to leave on their sole decision. I told you I was not aware of neither it was the first time since we started to rent but will apply Tripadvisor regulations. You said ok and we shake hands, wishing you a safe trip back to your home countries.
The only reason with your sarcasm and unpleasant comments is that you didn’t get a refund! As per Tripdavisor rules and regulation and every renting location, hotels, etc..!
Instead of being unfriendly you should have watched the pictures of the house inside and outside, have read and be aware of the rules of the agency you are renting through and to discuss the situation directly with Tripdavisor and not spreading venom on people and website location whom are trying to do their best to please as much possible their guest since 10 years now!
Although I will add to our description that the outside pool is not open in May when it it is 9 degrees in the morning and that color is a matter of choice.
La Maison Bleue is really sorry not to be able to have fulfilled your desire. We do hope you have found a location more easy to access to your physical capabilities and where it doesn’t get “Slippery when wet”..A “Hotel type” and not a troglodyte country side Mansion Classé of 200 years old

Beware does not deliver!!
In our opinion this property does not deliver what is promised. The access to the property was poor and would be quite slippery/dangerous if wet. Inside one of the beds had dirt/grit on it and the bedding we had to ask for (although we had pre ordered for €8 each) was of a very poor quality and nothing matched. The main toilet together with the single (child) beds were in the attic via a very unstable staircase. The toilet had paper in it so obviously had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. We were told we could not close the windows so no privacy or security. The pool was green with numerous leaves in it and looked like it had not been cleaned for ages. No bikes we available as advertised and the owner said he could get us a discount with his friend who owned a bike rental company! Also the owner was playing very loud music from his side of the house. We felt so uncomfortable that even though it was fairly late (7pm) and we had booked and paid for 4 nights we decided to leave and find somewhere else. The owner has refused to give us any sort of refund even though he did not deliver what was advertised. Even Booking.com who we booked through were unable to resolve the issue and suggest we go back to the property to speak to the owner, we live in Australia!!

Superb!
Stunning Gite in a great location for all that Dordogne has to offer. Modernised to a great standard with everything you need to keep your family supplied with all the home comforts. Spotlessly clean with towels, bedding and toiletries already supplied which is very handy. Extremely peaceful with a large garden and loads of amenities to keep the kids busy and out of the way.

Paradise!
Highly recommend this place, we had a fantastic family holiday. Absolutely perfect place to stay, lots to do and see from historical sights, canoeing, fireworks, beaches, zoos, water parks! Chris (the host) is lovely and extremely helpful, we all would love to come back next year!!

la maison bleue est accueillante quoique un peu fraiche à notre arrivée la chambre troglodyte est surprenante
Nous avons passé un séjour agréable à une période où le Périgord n'est pas trop touristique et cerise sur le gâteau il a fait très beau

Great location and setting
The house was well equipped and in a great location - a short drive to some really interesting attractions. The owners were very friendly and helpful - provided some good recommendations for what to see in the area. The garden area with pool was lovely for sitting out in the late afternoon sunshine as was the terrace. The downside was that if you wanted to go out for an evening meal, there wasn't anything really walkable especially once it got dark. We didn't mind this though and went out for lunches instead and then was pleasant to sit outside on an evening with a glass of wine and some nibbles.

Superb rental in a secluded location near many sites of interest
La Maison Bleue is a well-equipped and characterful holiday rental in a secluded location. Despite a miscommunication on my part regarding the number of guests when booking, Marianne (the owner) could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The rooms are well-proportioned and furnished to a high standard; the beds are comfortable and the wifi was reliable and reached all parts of the house (very important when travelling with teenagers!). The "cave" bedroom and bathroom are utterly unique and have a separate entrance to the rest of the house - an advantage in a mixed group if you would like some privacy. The twin bedroom is more suited to smaller children. The pool is small but perfectly adequate for cooling down on a hot day.
There are numerous places of interest a short drive away; the only downside for us was that there were no shops within easy walking distance.

Vitrac est une petite commune d'environ 900 habitants. En plein coeur du Périgord Noir, elle se trouve à l'épicentre des plus grands sites touristiques de la région : Les Eyzies, Lascaux, Castelnaud, Bergerac, Monpazier...
Situé entre Sarlat et Domme, deux des plus beaux villages de la région, Vitrac se compose d'un "port", d'un "bourg", et du hameau de Montfort récemment rénové pour le plus grand plaisir des visiteurs et de ses habitants ! Montfort a souvent été au coeur des conflits notamment durant la guerre de Cent ans ; d'abord la propriété de Bernard de Casnac, chef sanguinaire pendant la croisade des Albigeois, il a ensuite été celle de Simon de Montfort mais repris aussitôt par Bernard de Casnac dont vous entendrez également parler au château de Castelnaud. L'histoire de poursuit ensuite avec des destructions et reconstructions, mariages et trahisons. Aujourd'hui, le château est la propriété d'un homme d'affaires parisien, et si vous avez la chance d'être hébergé au sein du village lorsque les propriétaires y sont également, vous pourrez admirer la superbe demeure éclairée de mille feux.

Par l' Autoroute A20 direction Pais ou Toulouse. Sortie 55 (Souillac). Puis 30mn en direction de Sarlat la Canéda puis Vitrac au lieu dit Cantegrel.
En arrivant de Bordeaux, allez jusqu à Perigueux puis sortie Sarlat et ensuite Vitrac.
