Upon arrival, and very jetlagged, we were warmly greeted by the lovely Carlotta who promptly offered the four of us glasses of wine. We were given time to get acquainted and relax, before checking in. Once shown our rooms, we immediate fell in love with our quintessentially, Tuscan accommodations! We reserved the unit with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room and kitchen. The view from the upstairs bedroom was like a Tuscan painting! Gorgeous! All of the buildings on site scream Tuscan charm! We arrived at peak season for grapes, and harvesting began while we were there. We wandered the vineyards and met the workers who were handpicking the grapes. The olive trees were bursting with ripening olives; harvest to begin after the grapes are done. Their wine and olive oil are excellent! They became the standard by which we compared all other wines and olive oil throughout our travels. They were hard to beat! We recommend purchasing! Our little group participated in their offered wine tasting and tour. It was worth it. Along with other guests, we were offered their various wines along with a spread of meats, cheeses and bread. The tour of the facility was informative and added to the overall experience. Our host, Federico, was charming and accommodating. Our hosts offered great advice for the area on where to buy groceries, dine, using public transit, etc. That they spoke English well was very helpful, as our Italian is lacking, though we tried.
I highly recommend staying at La Presura. The location is excellent for touring Tuscany. We took drives to notable medieval villages, Pisa, Lucca, and city bus to Florence. I am a stained glass artist, and came away so inspired by what I saw; including our lodgings. I plan to put my memories into glass, including a photo of ‘la presura’; the rare thistle for which the vineyard is named. I spotted one in the vineyards.
To say we LOVED it here, is putting it mildly! I wonder if Federico would let me live there if I pick grapes and olives? ;) We absolutely plan to return to Tuscany and will stay at La Presura, to be sure!
