For once, we actually visited Portugal – at least this specific version of Portugal, the Visconde neighborhood in Peniche – and not a hotel or B&B *in* Portugal.
The house is on a tiny pedestrian street surrounded by a cute neighborhood very close to the ocean. Inside, everything is lovingly and thoughtfully decorated and appointed. The neighbors are friendly and happy to chat, but otherwise keep their distance, and it seems obvious that they take pride in their neighborhood. This is a beautiful place to be for a few days or weeks.
It was a great fit for us, and we loved it. But maybe it is not perfect for everyone: folks looking for more privacy or anonymity, people who want to come to Portugal to party, or obsessive cooks (the kitchen has a great Miele range, Microwave and ‘toaster oven’, but no real oven and it's small) and housekeepers (no washing machine).
But if you are looking to spend a week or two on the Portuguese coast, discover the beaches and countryside, and sample the local sea food in beach bars and restaurants, it doesn’t get much better.
After a day of surfing or exploring, it always was great to come home to this beautiful place.
