Family weekend in Monacil
Had a fantastic time at Cortijo la Mata meeting family & friends. Laura does an amazing job and will look after you very well. We had 10 people stay very comfortably and really enjoyed the villa and Monachil. Great setting for having a BBQ by the pool. Would definitely stay again.

Perfect property for large groups or Families and I magnificent location
The property was perfect for our large group, 4 families with children. Each of us had our own space with 2 large living rooms and plenty of outside space. The property was clean and tidy and great for our needs. The villa is in a great location with stunning walks and views right from the front gate. Close to granada and the sierra nevada national park there is plenty to explore in the area. The local village was very friendly with lots of places to eat and drink.

I am glad you brought that to my attention because I was unaware there was a problem. We will investigate and upgrade the router as necessary.

Wonderful location for Granada, Sierra Nevada and Salobrena Beach
We stayed at Cortijo La Mata for 6 days in April 2016. Six women for a celebration of our 50th Birthdays. Laura the housekeeper was friendly and helpful. The house is exactly as is shown in the website - spacious and very Spanish. We had a few problems with the wifi upon arrival which was solved immediately by contacting Scott.
Very late one night the electric for half the house suddenly went out (this is a common problem in old houses in remote parts of Spain). I sent a message to Laura and she immediately replied she would get an electrician first thing in the morning, which she did. It did mean however a lack of hot water the following morning. In leu of this Laura/Scott very kindly waved the whole electricity charge for our entire stay, which we felt was a very resonable compensation. We had a fantastic time. Visiting Granada , Alhambra (10 mins by car), the Sierra Nevada ski resort (30 mins) and Salobrena beach (1 hour). The area around the house was rustic and beautiful, and the village of Monochil is close enough to walk and has a good selection of restaurants and some small shops. All the bedrooms were lovely, warm and airy. The 3rd bathroom for the penthouse area is outside on the balcony, which means it is not for anyone who needs to get up a few times in the night :) It would however be ideal for families with tweens and teens, who could have their own territory up there (as teens like to do), complete with kitchen and living room. Highly recommened.

The combination of retaining the old world charm whilst giving guests the modern conveniences they ask for can be a challenging balance at times!

Quirky, atmospheric, enjoyable, switched off, great variety of activities
We had a very enjoyable stay at villa ‘Cortijo La Mata’, the owner (Scott) was always contactable to answer any queries in advance of our stay and the local caretaker (Laura) was very helpful throughout our visit. Despite the heat (45 degrees one evening due to a heat wave) we did a number of walks through the Sierra Nevada mountains outside Monachil, went up on the cable cars at the Sierra Navada ski resort which was only a 50 minute drive away, had Bar-B-Ques in some evenings, and visited Granada on a number of evenings (20 minute drive into the city centre). We particularly liked the fact that the temperature cooled down at night making it possible to sleep more comfortably. We believe that this was due to the cooler mountain air at approx. 1,000 meters. The layout of the villa also suited our party as each of the three individual families had their own space, yet we also enjoyed the benefits of being under one roof. If you are seeking a modern sterile environment, then this is not the venue for you. The age group of our party, 11 in total, ranged from 2 yrs. (youngest grandchild) to 75 yrs. (Grandparent). Overall we were very happy with our experience in Monachil and would give serious consideration to returning again.

Thank you for your kind review, it helps us a great deal to maintain what our guests are looking for and to highlight potential problems. My apologies about the confusion around the air conditioning, I hope it didn't lead to disappointment or discomfort as 2015 has been a particularly hot year. For future travellers I have just updated the holiday lettings website emphasizing that the installation only extends to the top floor bedroom suite.

Perfectly secluded
We truly enjoyed our stay. Scott was incredibly responsive with any questions/request both before and during our stay. We had two delicious meals made by Laura - highly recommend. The villa is located above Monachil with wonderful views, especially from the upstairs patio. A 10min walk into town gives you access to a small grocery store, pharmacy, and restaurants. A 5 min drive gets you to even more in new Monachil. Granada and al Hambra are only 15min away. The house is quirky in its design, but that adds to its charm. Loved our stay!

Fabulous Villa In an amazing Location
Our extended family (12 of us) enjoyed a fabulous week in this excellent villa. Despite the size of our group there was abundant space for all of us. The building has been modernised to a high standard by the owner, Mr Scott MacDonald. And, as well as the wonderful villa and superb location, we had a private swimming pool all to ourselves (a real hit with the family). There is a feeling of being in the real Spain - with a peaceful, restful atmosphere well away from the predictable holiday resorts but close enough to enjoy Granada, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a day out to the beach. Scott has thought of everything to ensure that you get maximum enjoyment from your holiday at the excellent Cortijo La Mata.

A lovely house in a beautiful setting
The setting of Cortijo La Mata is beautiful and yet it is near to lots of interesting places and plentiful activities.It is a lovely place in which to just relax, sitting in the sun and eating outside or to use as a base. The service we received was excellent and Scott was always helpful and responded to any requests we made. Even though there were only four of us Scott opened up two sections of the house so we could choose where we wanted to be. We made full use of both areas. Although it is necessary to have a car we did walk into the village and take the bus into Granada (only half an hour and very cheap). This was very easy and saved the stress of trying to park. We wished we had booked for longer.
