Great stay in Modica
A brilliant property in the heart of Modica. The house is extremely well equipped and has a fantastic terrace overlooking San Pietro church with lovely views of lower Modica. The town is a great base for exploring south east Sicily and is a short drive from Ragusa, Noto etc. It is also close to beaches at Sampieri and Marina di Ragusa. Modica is a lovely town. Really full of life with lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Would highly recommend this house. Thank you Vittorio and Fabio.

Unique experience
We spent a week here and enjoyed apartment living. The apartment is right in the middle of things, the views are wonderful, and Its a neat little place with loads of history (be sure to look through the scrapbook of how it came to be). However, it has its quirks.
You also need to be ok with steps as there are lots of them. Valeria met us and escorted us up very steep, narrow stone steps to check in. We later learned there is a graduated ramp path with only a few steps that is much easier to navigate especially when you have luggage. For a host of reasons, I would suggest that route when dealing with luggage.
The oven didn’t work but the burners did so we were able to do some cooking. The kitchen has a lot of things, but I suspect over time things have broken or gone missing, for instance, the bottom of the coffee pot. We were able to make due and have coffee out (which was fine...it is Italy) but be sure to do a quick inventory before setting out on some big meal. There are loads of cleaning supplies and leftover toiletries so worth it to check cabinets before purchasing things. There are a few supermarkets in walking distance.
What would have been really helpful is more of an explanation about all the switches and what controls what. There are lots of devices, dehumidifiers, fans, a/c, lights, I think a security system, etc. even what appears to be an internal intercom. They do have a washer but I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work.
The highlight for me, sitting in the kitchen and looking out at the church. It’s a breathtaking view and you really feel like you have walked back in time with modern luxuries. I was sad to leave but admittedly, looking forward to a bathroom with less dampness. Even the one in the other apartment.
And be sure to check out the locked door next to the cave bathroom and in the other unit bedroom. Very unique.

Authentic place in a beautiful town!
We enjoyed our stay at "Terrazza Barocca" from the first moment on. It started with a very warm welcome and useful information about the house which is really only a few steps away from the historic center of Modica. A lot of space and separate sleeping places, a huge and well equipped kitchen and a very nice terrace are completing this perfect place!

Extraordinary and cosy 'double house' with stunning view
Modica is a city build on (partly even within) rocky mountain ridges. Terrazza Barocca is situated on the southwest hill and therefore overlooking the old city, with the famous baroque Duomo the castle and the S. Pietro. The view is literally unbelievable: how can a city cling to a mountain like that? The house has a 'main building' (3 stories) that looks narrow from the outside but is actually quite spacious. The great 'terrazzo' connects the 'main house' with the guest house. We have older kids, and they loved having their own private space.
The house is spectacularly renovated, including a cave-bathroom. Here it shows how much effort went into building and maintaining this house: the bathtub is amazing but simply losing the battle with the elements. No problem for us though: having a shower in a cave was a new experience.
Vittorio and Fabio were excellent hosts who were very helpful in solving small problems like with the wifi. They care about their guests having a wonderful time!
We look back on four lovely days, exploring Modica, Ragusa, Scicli and the beautiful (in Feb/March very green and flowery) hills.

Wow--what a place!
Location is gorgeous and part of the home is literally carved into/out of the limestone. While thoroughly modern it is imbued with an ancient feel. Kitchen has all one needs; excellent selection of books about local towns and Sicilian history as well as foods and cooking.
Walked all over the town and enjoyed the stairs and alleys. Local hospitality can't be beat and a little effort to speak Italian is greeted with cheers. Local food is simply amazing. Chocolate, wine, espresso, produce along with history and pride of place.

Amazing Modica apartment
Me and my partner stayed at Terrazza Barroca for four nights this October. Vittorio was really helpful prior to and during our stay, including with booking taxis. Everything was very easy. The apartment is beautiful. The main house has three levels which are connected by a spiral staircase. The cave bathroom (which is great) and living room is on the ground floor, the beautuful bedroom is on the second floor and the lovely kitchen and massive balcony are on the top floor. There are lots of balconies throughout. However the main balcony - which is more of a roof terrace - is fantastic and connects the main house to the smaller guest house.
The views are incredible. The apartment overlooks the cathedral and the rest of Modica. It is basically on the main street of the town. Everything you need is close by including some amazing restaurants and bars.
The owners even left a bottle of wine and lots of lovely veg for us on arrival.
We had a 5 out of 5 stay and would definitely recommend the apartment for a stay in Modica.

Wonderful house in great location
Arriving by bus from Catania Airport, Terrazza Barocca was in the perfect location for us. It was a level walk from Modica bus terminal and, after a quick phone call, Vittorio and Fabio were there to meet us and carry our bags up the steps to the house. (You can't avoid steps in Modica but that's part of its charm.) The house benefits from great views across to Modica Alta, which really is a steep climb to the top!. It's close to the main restaurants and shops but far enough away to get a peaceful night's sleep. It's a great base for exploring Modica on foot, and travelling further afield by bus - during our stay we visited Marina di Modica, Ragusa, Scicli and Punta Secca (via Ragusa).
The house itself is very comfortable and a cool retreat from the heat of the afternoon. Vittorio and Fabio were great hosts: providing bowls of vegetables and fruit and a bottle of wine, some great restaurant recommendations, and books in a variety of languages. I particularly enjoyed looking at the scrapbook detailing the house renovations and the discovery of the caves.
Highly recommended!

Delightful accommodation - great view from the terrace
The owners, Vittorio and Fabio, met us on our arrival in Modica. They helped us up the stairs to our accommodation which was right in the centre of the old city - two adjoining small dwellings, each of which was on three levels. They were linked by a wonderful terrace which looked over the old city and St George's cathedral. The kitchen/ dining room in the main house was spacious, modern and fully equipped. We spent most of our time there and on the terrace. Vittorio and Fabio had left us an enormous bowl of freshly picked vegetables and a bottle of wine, so our first meal was right in front of us. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable
The owners were very responsive
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Terazza Barocca

The best place we have ever stayed in
We spent 5 glorious days in this wonderful apartment overlooking the splendid cathedral of St Pietro.
Our hosts, Vittorio and Valeria, were so friendly and generous, providing us with a welcoming gift of a wide selection of homegrown vegetables and local wine which enabled us to have several excellent meals.
The apartment is the best appointed of any we have stayed in and the cave bathroom was such a unique and special feature. Our teenage daughters shared the guest flat. They were so excited to have a little flat for themselves and it gave us parents space to relax as a couple. The views of Modica were lovely - it is such a pretty little town which really wakes up in the evening when the street lights come on, dotted across the terraces, the trattorias set up along the main streets and the evening air fills with the sound of happy people and the delicious smells of Sicilian cuisine. Needless to say we sampled our fair share of arancini, canneli and, of course, Modican chocolate.
Terazza Barocca is a real gem and we will certainly try to come back one day.
