Incredible Place, Incredible Views - The Cottage at Villa Passiflora
We spent 4 nights at the Cottage at Villa Passiflora, a one bedroom guest house next to the main villa. It is perfect for two people and is private from the main house, but enjoys the same views. It has a nice small kitchen, large bathroom and a washer (no dryer). It is convenient to Calibishie and the local attractions and is a perfect place to relax at the end of the day. The only complaint we had was my wife really missed a hair dryer!

Luxury home at a reasonable price
Villa Passi Flora – January and February 2021 The finest house we’ve ever rented or stayed in. Period. First: it’s situated perfectly on a hillside overlooking the ocean. It’s just a few minutes from a dramatic shoreline down a path slashed through the jungle. A five-minute traverse over a rocky outcropping gets you to a secluded, and often, empty beach bordered by a beautiful red-rock wall on the far side. And the village of Calibishie is the nicest we visited on the island Second: it’s designed with a focus on bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out. Each bedroom opens onto a veranda that provides a 180 degree view of the water. We slept every night for three weeks with both sets of doors open to the breeze and awoke to the sound of the surf and the morning light. Third: each bedroom is spacious and lovingly appointed. Each with their own bathroom. Fourth: the attention to design detail is amazing. Local hardwoods harvested from trees felled by a hurricane. A century-old front door sourced from a former bank. Lovely stonework in the showers. Fifth: the pool. A pleasant spot to relax and cool off, or hang out nearby in one of the hammocks built for two. Finally: the hosts and their staff. Attending to our every request but never hovering. Available at our call but never intruding. They provided us with fresh juices and even located wonderful freshly baked bread and local goat cheese. They arranged for drivers and tours. They were quick to recommend places to shop for food and local restaurants. We will return but next time we won’t make the mistake of only booking for three weeks.

We are back in Dominica, fondly remembering your visit last year. At this moment, I'm looking out over the Atlantic towards Guadeloupe, enjoying the view of the clouds proceeding westward with the prevailing breeze. It is always a special pleasure hosting people who "get" the beauty of Dominica and what we're trying to do with Villa PassiFlora.

Breathtaking view, wonderful vibe, great staff!
The house has been so thoughtfully designed and adorned. Great original art and furnishing. Each bedroom feels like a private suite, creative design and details everywhere. Soaking in the pool and watching the surf ebb and flow is exactly what was needed...morning, noon, and at night! The staff was considerate and knowledgeable about the many adventures waiting down the road....or simply down a path off the garden...there is a small beach just below the house that is so very exclusive and private (rarely saw anybody there). Unique to the Caribbean Red Rock that cascades into the turquoise water...guess what a Chocolate plantation is a short stroll from the house...seriously a CHOCOLATE PLANTATION! It is a small affair but so neat! Delicious variety to sample, you can do the tour or simply swing by after hiking the red rock park for some to take home...a funky little restaurant PoZ' with a friendly owner (and cats and a sweet dog not to mention a pool next to the bar just waiting for anyone to take a dip), rotating menu which almost always includes locally caught lobster, is right up from the house. We cooked our own meals more than half the time, given local fish, produce, and the wonderful kitchen...but also enjoyed short drives to cafes strung up and down the many villages flanking the property in both directions (keep in mind this is not Florida, some cafes were basically sand floor shacks with amazing food and people, be sure to have the house staff recommend where is best). We always found the locals not just friendly but genuinely interested in where we were from and what we thought of the island...most also had to "witness" to us the tragic experience of the hurricane 18 moths earlier. It is amazing how quickly the island has bounced back from the tragic storm. I should add that the house felt very safe and secure, The owners have a beautiful dog which is intentionally kept separate from the guests through training and invisible fencing....each room has its own key (keep in mind the house is wide open to the trade winds), but we never felt like we needed to "lock-down" the property, although we still did given our city habits. I cannot exaggerate the beauty of this property or the peacefulness of our trip....other than dining at the Secret Bay resort one day (which I would highly recommend for a special evening), every inch of this island seemed unspoiled and unassuming. I could go on, and on, and on.....massages on the deck, cocktails in the pool, a swim in a crystal clear stream, a hike to an amazing waterfall, snorkel off the west coast, lunch in Portsmouth, octopus soup (only on Saturdays) at a tiny bar on a secluded beach down the road picturesque drive to opposite side of island to check out Roseau, domino match in Claibishie....did i mention the Red Rocks and the adjacent Chocolate Plantation...don't hesitate renting this home!

Stunning Beautiful, Unique and Artistic Home
This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed- from the house itself with its lovely, interesting artistic touches and beautiful louvered windows and doors to a stunning ocean view across fantastic gardens. The kitchen and bathrooms and decks with hammocks and swimming pool are all simply unbelievable. It’s a quick walk to the beach on one side and interesting rocks to explore on the other. We will be back!

Beauty and Luxury
The view from the infinity pool is absolutely flawless. The natural beauty of the island envelops this property, yet it was clearly built with intention and function in mind. Every aspect of this home is exotic and luxurious and welcoming, while also being a sustainable property meant to last in its environment. I highly recommend having Isaline cook a meal for you (or several!). She is fantastic and her meals are amazing.

BREATHTAKING!!
Bruce and Ann were amazing hosts. Bruce was very prompt with answering any questions I had about the villa. Ann was very nice and welcoming and gave us a great run down of the island as far as what to see, where to eat, etc. As soon as we got off the plane we were greeted warmly by Ann and Nigel at the airport. Upon arrival at the villa we had freshly made juice and fruits waiting for us, which was such a nice treat. The view from the balcony was gorgeous and the rooms were clean and spacious. Waking up everyday to the beautiful scenery all around was an incredible experience. The staff, Ando and Isaline, were very nice, polite and helpful. Also, Nigel, the driver I mentioned previously is a tour guide. He has amazing knowledge of the island and we definitely used his services a lot during our stay. Every time we went out sight seeing, he always tried to show us as much as he could so we would have a great experience. We ended up going to the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge (although we couldn't really get a full experience due very strong currents that day), Sulfur Springs, Roseau, as well as various other waterfalls/sights in the area. Since we only stayed for 4 nights we really had limited time to explore. This place surpassed all of our expectations and made us want to come back before we even left. What can I say great hosts, staff, island made for an unforgettable experience.

You guys were wonderful guests, and we likewise regret that you only had 4 days with us. I honestly feel that Dominica is best visited for 10-14 days. Our family followed you, and we're coming to the end of a 3 week stay, which still feels short. We are constantly appreciative of our staff for helping to make our guests welcome.

Hidden paradise with world class hospitality!
Where to start with Villa PassiFora! What an incredible place! We travelled as a group of 6 people our 30s who were on an island hopping trip of the Caribbean with 5 nights to spend in Dominica at the villa. We arrived to Calibishie late at night after driving from the ferry in Roseau which was an adventure in itself! After a few wrong turns, we made it to the villa where Ando was ready to welcome us and explain everything we needed to know. it may have been dark but we were all blown away by the villa, the photos do not do justice to how beautiful this place is. It immediately feels like a home away from home, with so many personal touches put in place by the owners from the decor to the library or books, caribbean music and board games to make you feel right at home. One of our group was only with us for a day and so we had booked a trip in advance to the boiling lake for our first day which was organised for us fully through owner Bruce and the amazing Isaline, the Villa's housekeeper and all round legend! This tour was carried out by Nigel, a friend of the Passiflora team, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He even came out of his way to visit us at dinner the night before to brief us on the next day's hike which was really appreciated! Nigel was from start to finish the perfect guide and really did the team proud for recommending him. He was so brilliant at explaining everything along the way on the hike, from the flora, fauna and history of dominica. The boiling lake hike was definitely a challenge but Nigel made it so much fun and an unforgettable experience. He is also probably one of the nicest people we have ever met! He had us in hysterical laughter the whole time with his brilliant energy and so if you are considering doing any trips from the villa- make sure you ask for Nigel, he absolutely made our trip! With the hike done we were able to relax for the next few days in the villa which we were so excited for and it didn't disappoint. The Villa itself is breathtaking. Absolutely beautiful rooms and kept to a very high standard. Going to sleep at night with the sound of the waves was so special and I have never stayed anywhere like it. It was ideal for 3 couples and felt like more of a boutique hotel with each room having it's own key and entrance areas. The communal areas were also so clean and the view was amazing! We had a bit of rain which sadly meant we couldn't enjoy the pool, as the sun didn't quite reach it to heat it enough but we spent hours playing the game of life which is provided in the villa, and we had a brilliant time! When the sun did come out we headed to the roof terrace which was a brilliant sunbathing spot and had an incredible view. We also spent a lot of time reading in the hammocks, which really you could do all day! Again, with the help of the owners we had pre organised some yoga classes at the villa with Elise, from Alive with Elise, who came along and took morning yoga classes for us on the upstairs decking- as someone who loves yoga, this was a truly unforgettable experience in the most incredible setting and we all took part, even one of the group who had never taken part in any yoga, really enjoyed it. The local area of Calibishe is fantastic and very authentic with some of the warmest and kindest people we met on our entire trip. We were able to explore the local beaches and town- sampling rum shacks and local restaurants along the way. Huge recommendation for the Rainbow restuarant and bar in town run by Michael, who's food was fantastic and treated us to some impromptu musical performance. A night to remember! We also have to mention POZ! the local bar and restaurant within walking distance to the villa that we visited a LOT! Poz, the owner, really helped make our trip fantastic. He welcomed us so warmly each time and really helped us out with local enquiries and helpful trip advice. He opened up early for us for breakfast one day and catered to us all so well. The food and drinks were so tasty and he really took so much care in looking after us, another example of the world class hospitality on this island. In terms of the villa staff- Isaline the housekeeper was brilliant and like a ray of sunshine. So So friendly and welcoming and couldn't do more to help us out. As well as booking our hike, she was on hand for any and all questions and we had the pleasure of sampling her cooking one night which she had prepared for us arriving back from the hike. Ando was there to help us out whenever we needed and was great with keeping us right about the dogs. I see that many people review about the dogs and yes, they do bark but they are obviously very well trained and there to keep you safe. I could go on for pages about this place but lastly I want to say a huge thanks to the owners Bruce and Ann. I had a lot of communication with Bruce on the lead up to the trip and he was absolutely fantastic, replying to my many questions quickly and really helping us out with advice on what to see on the island, local connections and info about the villa. Ann helped us set up the yoga which was a real highlight of the trip. Having owners like this makes such a difference to a trip like this as the personal touch is there from before you even walk through the doors of Passiflora. Dominica was the highlight of my trip and the only negative was that we didn't have long enough! Thanks to all the team and we hope to be back! Ami and friends x

Best of Dominica!
My husband & I and 3 friends meet somewhere every year for diving. This year we chose Dominica and Villa PassiFlora and we were so happy we did! We traveled around the island and, in my opinion, Villa PassiFlora is definitely the best place to stay in Dominica. We were met by Amy and Alder, the care takers of the property. They gave us a tour of the house and explained any details. They were wonderful people and a joy to talk to. Amy allowed us to go on a hike with her and Jacko the next morning, which was great. She took us to places I'm sure we wouldn't have discovered alone. She even brought us fresh tomatoes from the farmer when he came by the next day! The 3 bedrooms with separate baths was perfect for us. The pool was sparkling clean. I don't think I've ever seen clearer water in a pool and it didn't have a chemical odor or burn our eyes. The grounds were so beautifully landscaped with natural island plants, trees and rock. The house itself was built using trees found on the island. Very natural and open. The next day we met Isalene. She was so sweet and amazingly positive. Isalene took such great care of us! She made us feel like we were family. She had left us fresh squeezed juice in the fridge along with some homemade bread and jam. And also had fresh bananas, mango, passion fruit and oranges from local farmers to enjoy. The house, of course, was spotless! Isalene was absolutely the best! The first night we discovered the microwave didn't work. We are microwave popcorn addicts, as well as, unfortunately, dependent on conveniences. When we asked Isalene about it, she was so disappointed that something in her house was broken and apologized over and over again. It wasn't really big deal because we had went into town and bought popping corn because the house has everything needed to cook with. But, Isalene, being the wonderful person she is, had the microwave checked out. It was dead. That's wasn't the end though. Isalene, on her day off, had someone drive her to Roseau (not and easy nor quick trip and you know what I mean if you've been to Dominica) and bought a microwave so we could have our microwave popcorn! We were so amazed that she really wanted to make sure we were happy! Everyday we would leave the house and come back to find it spotless, her sweet smile and more fresh fruit! She also cooked dinner for us a couple of nights and it was so delicious! Better than anything we ate anywhere else on the island. One morning we decided we'd like to go hiking, so we asked her if she could recommend a guide and she sprang into action, calling a friend who met us at the house (walked) withing 30 minutes! We so regret that we had an early flight and didn't get to see her on our last day there. We will always remember Villa PassiFlora how wonderful it was and Isalene for making it perfect! If you are planning a trip to Dominica, Villa PassiFlora along with Isalene, Amy & Alder, is absolutely, in my opinion, THE BEST!

Like a Dream Come True
Staying at the Villa Passiflora was so incredible that it felt like a dream. Every morning we would wake up and say, “Is this real life?!” My parents had the master suite upstairs, and my BF and I stayed in the suite on the bottom floor near the infinity pool and a hammock. The house had everything from high-quality linens and beach towels to a well-appointed kitchen. When we arrived, the hosts had filled baskets with fresh fruit. One of the first things we did was to walk down to the rocky outcropping amidst the crashing waves. You can also walk to Hodges Beach, and several other beaches are just a short drive away. For nightlife, you can walk up the road to Poz Restaurant, which features excellent food, cocktails, and karaoke! Our suite was very comfortable and airy and we were soothed to sleep by the loud ocean surf. With three separate suites, this house is large and airy and perfect for three couples. The housekeeper, Isoline, is super-sweet and friendly and a great cook. The proprietors of the villa, Amy and Alder, are very friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. They have two large guard dogs to protect the property. As other reviewers have written, the dogs do bark sometimes, but they make you feel safe. The two levels of decks both have incredible views of the crashing waves. We even saw a vivid double rainbow! Some guests have spotted whales. The top of the house even has an observation deck from which we drank Kubuli and watch the sunset. We feel so lucky that we got to spend a week at the Villa Passiflora and would love to come back someday.

À propos du quartier
Villa PassiFlora is located on a beautiful coastal site in one of the most picturesque villages in Dominica, Calibishie. Well-sited on the island's northeast coast, the continuous flow of the tradewinds keep the villa cool and comfortable year-round. A simple walk down a well-used trail which begins at the border of our property takes you to the glorious beaches of Pointe Baptiste.
Déplacements
You do not need to rent a vehicle. Transport from the airport can be easily arranged. Many of our guests find life at Villa PassiFlora so satisfying that they simply stay put. If you plan just an excursion or two, you might want to hire drivers as needed; we can make the arrangements. If you have a stronger interest in exploring this beautiful island —and most guests do — then rent a relatively small vehicle with 4-wheel drive. You may not need the 4-wheel drive, but it can definitely come in handy if you find yourself on a rutted, muddy road to a glorious beach, and the added road clearance of these vehicles is a must off the main road. Driving in Dominca is on the left, British style.
Accès
Voiture conseillée
Comment s'y rendre
The villa is just 20 minutes from Douglas-Charles (Mellville Hall) Airport. Most of our guests arrange car rental in advance and find getting to the villa simple and straightforward. Leaving the airport, go left and follow the northeast road through Wesley, Woodford Hill and Small Farm until you see the sign for VP. We are just beyond the road to Sea Cliff and just before the village of Calibishie. The easiest thing is to follow the many signs leading to POZ. If you are not renting a vehicle, we will be happy to arrange transportation to Villa PassiFlora.
