Just metres from the beach this apartment has wonderful sea views. The partly covered sun deck is a place to sunbathe dine or stargaze plus bring an end unit it has the advantage of two side doors / Juliette balconies. Dine under the stars or have breakfast alfresco. The sound of the ocean echoes through the apartment as the crystal clear Caribbean sea laps just thirty metres away and is a place that evokes the sensual elements of island life, rich turquoise water edged with hot white sands and sunsets and stars by night. Maid service is available. Bedrooms have air-con. The apartment is a close walk to shops, banks restaurants or to the beautiful Heywoods beach as well as the white sand beach outside the apartment.

A Corner of Real Barbados

This was our second stay at the apartment in this delightfully traditional part of Barbados and hopefully won't be our last. Jude's apartment is superbly located within a short walk of Speightstown, which is not unduly commercialised, but which offers sufficient to meet one's daily shopping and eating requirements. One cannot find fault with the apartment which is spacious, bright and airy, with views from the balcony towards the sea, which are breathtaking, particularly at sunset. The accommodation is generous and Jude has thought of everything in the way she has furnished and equipped the apartment, to provide a home from home experience, except you are very clearly in the Caribbean! For us, a car isn't necessary, as the frequent buses (running from a terminus visible from Jude's place!) provide a great way to visit most parts of the island. The road south from Speightstown takes you along the fascinating West Coast, whilst nearby Holetown will satisfy the shopper perhaps requiring that little something extra. Everything combined to make this a wonderfully relaxing holiday.

Fantastic beachfront penthouse apartment in relaxing Speightstown

The apartment was just like the photos and descriptions - fantastic! The view from the patio could not be bettered - ideal for relaxing in the sun and watching the beach and the world go by. Coco de Mer is very spacious and excellently maintained and equipped with everything you need for a brilliant holiday whether you wish to self cater or eat out. Location is ideal for touring the island or just the 2 minute walk into the town for a drink or meal. Bus station just around the corner if you do not wish to hire a car. Wi-Fi worked on the patio - ideal with 2 university students! Many thanks Jude and Sarah for a dream holiday.

Superb

I concur with all the previous reviewers comments with regard to this superb apartment...we used it with our teenagers...I must admit I was worried that the idea of them 3 weeks in July and no pool was a mistake..in the end the kids never even mentioned the lack of pool..we just went straight into the sea opposite or up to the old resort and swam and snorkeled the coral there. We were primarily on a diving holiday and were superbly looked after at Wreckers and Reefers, and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and people of Speightstown..a real gem in the Caribbean...it would be hard to find better.

Beautiful apartment in relaxing local beach town

We stayed at Coco de Mer for one week and wish we could have stayed longer. The apartment is just as well-kept, spacious, and beautiful as it appears in the photos. The balcony overlooking the beach was our favorite spot to relax in the morning and in the evening watching the sunsets. The Speightstown fish market is a short walk away and a great place to get fresh fish to cook. We did our grocery shopping at the two nearby super markets also in walking distance and bought fresh bread at the local bakery. There are beachfront restaurants within walking distance, but we chose to cook and eat the majority of our meals on the balcony. If you are looking to stay in a less touristy area and experience the local Bajan culture Speightstown is perfect. We took the bus a couple of times from the nearby terminal, but it can take an hour or more to reach destinations in the South of the island. There are plenty of beaches close to Coco de Mer. We swam in the beach directly in front of the apartment, but it can be rocky. Just a short 3 minute walk there is a long stretch of beach in front of various hotels that is perfect for swimming and also has shaded areas. This was our first time in Barbados and we would definitely come back and happily stay at Coco de Mer again.

Fantastic stay in this beautiful apartment

We (2 couples) had a great 2 weeks staying in this beautiful apartment. We always stay in Speightstown as we love how quite and un-touristy it is, but this was our first time in this apartment. It is really well managed - from arrival to departure, everything worked smoothly. The apartment itself is beautiful - it is light and airy, really spacious, with nice bedrooms with very comfortable beds. It is very nicely furnished and kitted out - there is everything you could possibly need. The huge balcony / sun terrace looks out over the beach. As it is a corner apartment, there is always nice breeze going through the property. We absolutely loved our stay here and will surely be back.

Coco de Mer - am Turtlebeach

We have returned from Coco de Mer and are thrilled. The lovely apartment has plenty of space, plenty of rest and lots of amenities. A good starting point for our activities. A great experience was the little turtles, which we helped to find their way into the sea. Thanks to Jude and Pam, who made this possible. We want to come back soon !!

Check the Rates Before You Confirm

Our group of 4 booked Coco de Mer back in August for a Christmas holiday. We were happy for an instant confirmation and acknowledgement that our dates were available, and proceeded to tell the owner about ourselves, two professional, older couples from the US and England. We had also accepted the per night rate, service fee, extra person fee, and refundable damage deposit on VRBO’s site, and paid the requested deposit. The owner sent us instructions and directions, and when the balance was due prior to arrival paid that in full as well. On our way to Barbados I checked my e-mails to find we were being asked for another 1000£ (about $1300) above our contract pricing for a “forgotten” extra person fee. I did nothing, waiting to discuss with the owner in person. The owner was indeed on site in Barbados when we arrived (she lives in England), and proceeded to show us the unit’s amenities and usage instructions, and when she handed us the keys we brought up the added fees. She claimed we were getting a deal because it was Christmas and the rates were much higher than we were paying, but the rates she quoted WERE exactly what we paid. We held firm that we had a contract, we’d satisfied that contract, and we didn’t owe her anything additional. The next day she contacted us through VRBO and asked if we’d pay 200£ extra as we HADN’T paid the “holiday rates” she’d quoted the night before, and I said no, giving her a breakdown of exactly what we’d paid. She thanked me and claimed she couldn’t see what we paid and had received no money from VRBO yet, that there was a new system in place, etc., basically a list of excuses. So we ended up paying exactly what our contract stipulated, but this was a very stressful and angering beginning to our Christmas holiday. Not to mention on further review of the Coco de Mer page the Christmas rates posted were from 2017 and were LESS than what we actually paid. That being said, we didn’t want this troubled beginning to spoil our holiday. Coco de Mer is indeed a lovely unit, on the top 2 floors of a 3-story condo building. The photo makes it look as though it is beach front, but it is actually across the street from the beach. As it is the end unit the views are unobstructed, and there are windows/French doors on the side as well as the front for plenty of cross breeze. One bedroom (top floor) has an en suite bath, and the second floor bedroom has a bath just outside the door, so privacy wasn’t an issue. There is a third full bathroom off of the kitchen, as well. The property is listed as 4 bathrooms, but there were only 3. There is a washer but no dryer, and there are plenty of hanging racks to lay clothes on, as well as a clothesline across the patio. The patio is great in the morning, as the overhang provides sun protection until around noon, and while the sunsets are excellent the mid-late afternoon sun forced us inside, as the umbrella, even tilted, didn’t provide enough shade and the winds were too high to use it on some days. The kitchen has a full sized American style refrigerator, a dishwasher, and an upscale oven and stovetop. There is no stand-alone barbeque grill, and the “grill” in the listing is basically the broiler unit of the oven. The kitchen was well appointed with dishes and various glassware including martini, wine and rocks glasses. There is a good range of cooking pots, pans and utensils. We actually cooked a turkey on Christmas day. No self-catering rental is ever perfect, but Coco de Mer’s amenities made for a relaxed and comfortable stay. Plenty of beach towels and bath towels were on hand, as were reusable grocery bags and a cooler bag. Speightstown is an active town, but the property is far enough north of the center that the area is mostly quiet, but it is in a neighborhood and there is a kennel of dogs behind the property. We had the air conditioner on in our bedroom, and I sleep with earplugs so they weren’t much of a bother to me, but our friends and my husband did hear them during the night and early in the morning. There are monkeys in the area (we saw some sitting on the wall of the car park on our return one day) so I’m sure the dogs bark at them, too. Bring earplugs and use the A/C at night in the bedrooms. No shoes are allowed upstairs on the main floor, so if barefoot is a problem I suggest bringing socks to wear, but the tile floors can be slippery. It’s a 5 minute walk into Speightstown with restaurants, shops, a big grocery store and bars/entertainment. We had an enjoyable time in beautiful Barbados, but I suggest you confirm rates with this owner prior to booking to make sure there are no surprises.

The best place to stay in Speightstown.

We enjoyed the large balcony with extensive sea views and the humming birds in next doors garden. The bed was large and comfy and the kitchen area was well equiped. Location was exellant as just a 10 min walk down the quiet road was what must be one of the best beaches in Barbados, very quiet as well. We also walked round the Port St Charles to Pier One for lunch, lovely setting and food.

Perfect location, brilliant experience

This apartment was spacious and homely with a beautiful balcony affording beach & sunset views. The location is perfect for exploring Speightstown & the northern part of the west coast, and enjoying many bars and restaurants within walking distance. Jude and her local friend Sarah were helpful and very fast to respond to any questions or needs. We highly recommend this apartment!

Cracking Coco de Mer

A great location near to town & beaches but peaceful. the well furnished & equipped apartment is perfect for indoor & outdoor living. The main large kitchen dining & living area is easily kept cool by doors opening onto the large balcony & side windows to let in the breeze. The balcony overlooks the sea & is very private. The bedrooms are roomy with tall ceilings, air-conditioning & fans, nights are very comfortable& 'mosi' free. Sarah the house manager is charming, available & very helpful. She knows the apartment well & it's foibles. Sarah's relationship with the maintenance team is excellent, who if needed, are prompt, polite & good workers. Jacintha & her cleaning team are excellent & are all hardworking & trustworthy. A great holiday home, this was our third visit & we are going again next year & we can't wait. Chris & Louise Chilton
