This pretty barn conversion was originally chicken housing, although had more recently been used for pressing and fermenting grapes from the vineyard at the top of the drive. 'Le Perchoir' means 'The Roost' in English. With thick limestone walls and many character features, Le Perchoir has been sympathetically restored using traditional methods and materials local to the area. Our aim is to provide high quality and comfortable accommodation, while maintaining a low impact on the environment. Reclaimed timber and stone have been used wherever possible. We would like all our guests to have a relaxing holiday, unwind and enjoy the gentle and relaxing pace of life in this very rural and beautiful location. From the terrace garden, Le Perchoir overlooks meadows, farmland and a newly planted orchard. During May and June these meadows are dotted with many types of wild orchids, flowers and grasses. Nightingales start singing in April and we often see hoopoe birds and hear the elusive golden orioles. Outdoor seating and a barbecue are provided so guests can enjoy meals outside. The west facing terrace benefits from stunning sunsets and views overlooking the fields and orchid meadow. The above ground swimming pool measures 10m x 5m and sits above ground in the meadow adjacent to the terrace. Safety steps lock the pool securely when not in use. An all year round table tennis table is provided for guest use. Inside the open plan main room, the new kitchen area includes a dishwasher, fridge with small freezer compartment, washing machine and cooker. It is well equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and other kitchen tools and equipment. There is a round kitchen table and chairs. Two good size sofas provide comfortable seating for relaxing. We have also installed underfloor heating for use during the winter months. Having one double bedroom and one twin room, Le Perchoir sleeps four comfortably. A cot can be made available if required instead of one of the single beds. The separate shower room also houses the dry toilet. Those of you as yet unfamiliar with this little gem may be surprised to see that it looks almost identical to a conventional WC at first sight, but functions slightly differently. More information is available upon request should you require it. Fresh and clean, high quality bed linen, bath towels, tea towels and pool towels are provided upon arrival and thereafter on a weekly basis. We think this is more convenient and cheaper for our guests than you having to cart them all the way from your homes! Should you require a more regular change of linen or towels, this can be arranged at extra cost. Books and board games are available. WiFi use is included in the weekly rental charge. Le Perchoir will be available to use from 16.00 on the Saturday afternoon. We do remind guests the gite must be vacated by 10.00 on the day you leave to allow for cleaning. Inside the gite is strictly a no smoking area. We live with our two small dogs Ruby and Arnie in the adjacent farmhouse, and in a quest to be as self-sufficient as possible, can usually offer organic and seasonal homegrown, fresh honey and eggs for sale. Although Le Perchoir is self-catering, we are able to arrange for a 'supper service' to be delivered to your door on Tuesdays and Thursday should you like a night off from the barbecue. The local artisan baker is situated in Montaut a five minute drive away and provides the best bread and pastries for miles around. During August, Montaut is the scene for the weekly night market each Friday, where local suppliers come to offer their produce for sale. Local towns of Villereal, Castillonnes, Monflanquin and Cancon provide further shops, restaurants and excellent markets. All are a ten minute drive away. Visits to Chateaux Biron and Bonaguil provide history-filled dramatic locations and architecture. There are cycle routes and beautiful walks throughout the bastide towns and countryside. Local eateries with everything from pizzerias to Michelin-starred restaurants are a short drive away. The rivers Dordogne and Lot are a thirty minute drive from the gite, in Bergerac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot respectively. Canoeing is possible on both these rivers. Agen prunes are local to this area, as are foie gras, duck, walnuts and hazelnuts. Oh! and wine too! Along with the grand Chateau Monbazillac there are many smaller vineyards and many provide tastings. La Roque Gageac is the site of a 15th century troglodyte fort and is another worthwhile outing. There is a market a short distance away in one of the local towns on every one of the seven days of the week. We look forward to welcoming you to our quiet little haven in rural south west France.

Anniversary Break
Simon and Jill were very helpful and friendly hosts. From the moment we made the booking with directions for a stress free trip from the airport, and on our arrival such a lovely warm welcome, with a very extensive helpful tips pack for things to do in the surrounding are. The gite is in a beautiful tranquil location, which straight away is very relaxing, and has recently been very nicely renovated, and is comfortable and well equipped. You can either relax on the grounds around the gite sitting on the patio or relaxing in the pool, or enjoying the surrounding area visiting some of the nearby sites. We would definitely recommend and will be booking a re-visit.

Autumn sun
Loved it here! We got the ferry and drove down from Caen, but Bergerac Airport only 20 mins away. Our young daughter loved the gite, the pool, the dogs Ruby and Arnie and lots of trips to local markets (highly recommend Blanchards in Villereal, amazing cakes and coffee!). Sunsets and night skies spectacular here. Gite sympathetically restored with attention to detail and a home from home, it had everything we needed. Comfy beds and great shower! Hosts always smiling and helpful but never intrusive. Sad to leave - will definitely be back.

Peace and charm in a wonderful area of France
A lovely gite in a peaceful and charming area of France. Our visit in October saw early Autumn arrive with glorious colours in the orchards and woods combined with balmy weather. The gite itself is a good size, very well equipped, and private. I particularly enjoyed walking from the gite, up the single track, and along the quiet roads through the woods. There are a number of pretty, and in some cases spectacular, bastide towns and villages in the area, with great markets and farm shops. Hosts Jill and Simon were very welcoming, easy to talk to, and ready to answer any questions. I would thoroughly recommend a visit!

Perfect French getaway
Me and my partner stayed here just before Christmas in 2016. It was an amazing location, right in the heart of the French countryside, a very old and amazing style French house with lots of character. We stayed in a renovated gite which was lovely and cosy. A real heaven away from the usual busy cities, we stayed here for a week, it was a great place to come and unwind before Christmas. We learnt new skills from our hosts Jill and Simon (who were brilliant fun) learning how to make our own sausages from scratch and smoking our own bacon, (I had never done anything like this but I promise it was the best sausages I have EVER eaten!) And to know it was all such fresh and local produce made it extra special. I would definitely come back.

Parfait
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans ce gite situé dans la calme de la campagne et extrèmement bien situé pour visiter les très jolies bastides des environs (Monflanquin, Castillones ..), les chateaux...Les environs sont riches d'activités et de visites. Le gite est récement et très joliment rénové avec de beaux matériaux et beaucoup de gout (encore bravo Jill et Simon), il n'y manque rien. Sans vis à vis, il est très agréable de se baigner dans la piscine privée ou d'observer les étoiles. Enfin, Jill et Simon sont des hôtes très accueillants et prévenants. Bref tous les ingrédients pour des vacances réussies !

Peace and tranquility!
Had a wonderful long weekend stay at Simon and Jill's gite, a beautifully restored barn on their home stead. Stunning countryside and walks from the back door. An attractive traditional French market town less than 10 minutes down the road too. All in all, a wonderful way to spend a weekend or fortnight relaxing.

Wonderful stay
We had the most wonderfully relaxing and peaceful stay at this lovely gite. Located in a tranquil setting with stunning rural surroundings it was complete heaven! The gite has been restored to a very high standard and contains everything you could want in terms of facilities - all the usual cooking utensils and crockery, a fridge, a coal bbq, a swimming pool, White Company towels - everything has been thought of. The gite has 2 bedrooms, 1 with twin beds and 1 with a big double bed. It was just 2 of us on this trip and the double bed was very comfortable. Jill and Simon were brilliant hosts and had lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We would definitely recommend a stay at this lovely gite and hope to go back ourselves.

Tranquility
If you have a chance to rent Le Perchoir, take it! Look no further…. Our stay at Le Perchoir could not have been better. The most comfortable "home away from home" where the views over undulating countryside are truly spectacular. Jill and Simon are the consummate hosts, very welcoming and professional. We were greeted by Jill after an early flight and she is just the loveliest person. Le Perchoir was recommended by word of mouth and i am leaving a review as I would like everyone to know about this idyllic place to stay. The owners have restored it to top notch standard creating a comfortable, cosy, well appointed, spotless, holiday rental home for 4 people. Everything was clean and very tidy. The photos are great but don't accurately capture how amazing it is, or how relaxing it is to sit out on the terrace enjoying the cool night breeze coming in off the french countryside. It’s beautiful quiet tranquil location will immediately relax you. We had use of the main bedroom where the bed linen, pillows and mattresses were like sleeping on clouds and every morning we felt refreshed and raring to go out exploring the regions of Aquitaine and the Dordogne. The accommodation was beautifully restored in keeping with its history. Le Perchoir is located close to a major supermarket, where you can buy scrumptious french produce to the highest quality, the region also offers a plethora of day and markets, and restaurants serving delicious french cuisine. Occasionally we would cook in the gite which was problem free as it has been thought through properly and is so well stocked with all the necessary accoutrements. It has a swimming pool where we would relax at the end of every day gazing at the magnificent spectacular views sipping on our sun downers. We had a great experience booking with Jill and Simon communication with them was very fluent and it was no problem checking in or out. Our hosts were extremely attentive and responsive to any questions or concerns that arose before and during our stay. Even though they work they couldn’t have been more helpful. Clear instructions were given on every aspect of the rental. Great location, A+ in cleanliness, A+ in amenities too. They live in a separate house within the grounds of the warm environment, which is Grudordy. Receiving and handing over the keys went really smoothly, and the presence of such friendly, kind hosts was a huge plus. The entire property is completely furnished with everything you could possibly need. Jill and Simon were even so kind as to provide some wine and other goodies before we arrived. Most importantly, Jill and Simon made us feel at home from the very first moment and were extremely helpful with their hints and tips for places to shop, eat and visit. In other words, if you happen to want to holiday in in the area, Le Perchoir is THE PLACE TO BE. We have no hesitation in staying there again and will most definitely return next year. We had a memorable holiday!!! Thank you both so much.

Beautiful Gite in Peaceful, Relaxing Location
We have just returned from a wonderful week’s holiday here, the accommodation is beautiful with an open plan living,kitchen and dining area plus the bathroom and two bedrooms. The craftsmanship in the finish of this building makes it much more than a holiday home, and the grounds include private outside dining, pool and garden. The locality to Bergerac airport allows maximum holiday time but with a quiet countryside location. We mixed eating meals at the Gite and eating out - with many restaurants in a 15 minute drive. A wonderful time had by all and we look forward to being able to return again soon

Absolutely lovely. The gite is stunning in a beautiful quiet location. Furnishings and fittings are top quality and we had a splendid break. Location is great for nearby towns and lots going on in the area. I’ll be there again as soon as I can.
